Your civilization is descending into anarchy for no reason at all!

Granted, I was a democracy and was at war for a very long time, but I had governors managing happiness in all my cities and no rioting broke out. No new governments were available, I was building Future Tech 2 and just turned my science bar to 0%. Just, all of a sudden, I got a window that said the people were rioting and overthrowing me. WTH? And the turn after my civilization descended into anarchy, several cities started going into WLTKD. How does that happen?

The happiness of your cities doesn't really matter. When democracy reaches a certain level of war weariness it descends into anarchy no matter what.

Just a thought here, but how many turns until the revolution begins?

Get out of democracy. I enjoy games with a lot of combat so monarchy, communism is my path. War weariness is not an issue... I hate war weariness... your people should know that it's all for the good of the country. :hammer: :goodjob:

You and George W would agree on that. :D

I'm sure you and Stalin would agree on politics to am I right?

Was Stalin a libertarian?

P.S. My comment was directed at George W, not the player.

It's helpful to know how war weariness works. You can wage war as a democracy, but it's necessary to modify your tactics to minimize WW. In the War College You'll find Oyestein's article on how WW works helpful. Also Moonsinger's on how to wage war as a democracy.

Generally speaking, if your goal is purely a military victory, your best bet is to stay a way from democracy. If you're looking for a non-military victory, can keeep your wars fairly short, and don't mind limiting your gains during a war, democracy is okay.

So was I! Sometimes you just can't be sure, thus the second post.

First of all, Civ III makes democracy look gay because of the war weariness and secondly, WTH is a WLTKD?

We Love The King Day = WLTKD ;)

Edit: I play in democracy on C3C quite a bit and I haven't found war weariness to be that big of a deal.

However, recently I played a game on PTW and it seemed like the war weariness was much worse than on C3C. Maybe the circumstances were different than most of my games, but I was quite surprised.

I try to stay out of enemy territory for several turns in a row. I prefer quick strikes with a fast moving units, after which I will bring in the slower units as garrison since I then own the roads. That seems to alleviate the problem somewhat. However, I am no expert on the subject.

Democracy is not usually a problem if you're trading enough luxuries, and it helps to have Universal Suffrage. Also short quick wars work much better because the people forget about war in 20 turns after it ends, while you're building up forces for the next war
