I admit, I always build Stonehenge. Always. I'm a peacemonger, so I usually go Pottery - Calender, and build Stonehenge ASAP.

I do that too. I like social policies, and I like Great Engineers more than Great Scientists, in the early game. That Engineer always comes out when theres something juicy to be had. I have been fooling around with adding the pyramids, for 2 GE points very early.

But my tried and true way of playing is aiming for Hanging Gardens after the Stonehenge. At Emperor, it's often futile to try and wedge the Great Library in between these 2, you'll lose out on one or both.

Hanging Gardens is great but somewhat situtational - for example, if I play Aztecs, not sure I want the HG as happiness is a big issue and controlling growth is sometimes a problem. And if I'm in an area where I have lots of food, it could be an issue up through the mid game until you can turn the corner on happiness.

So it depends. Its a great wonder, but not one I "always" get - it depends.

I'm surprised the by the GL votes. I can't get it built before the AI, so I've pretty much given up. If the WotAW pack makes it easier I may have to buy it. I voted Hagia Sophia because I always attempt the PT & ND combo.

Great Library if not playing Deity. On deity the only wonders I even bother to go for are HS, PT and ND. Which is why I prefer playing king/emperor/immortal. I WANT to build wonders!

Hanging Gardens is the wonder I'd like to get, but more often than not, it gets built by someone else before I've even teched Math.

Stonehenge + Pyramids gives the advantage of getting a great engineer faster, apart from their advantages.

If I can get Hanging Gardens after that, Victory is at hand :goodjob:
HG = Great People production galore!!

Maybe I should start playing higher levels :D

Will always try to go for Colossus in capital. Even if I don't have a lot of usable water tiles, the +5 gold bonus is still worth it to me. It's a useful boost pre-currency.

I play multiplayer a lot, and trying for the GL or Stonehenge sees you lose the race by one turn or so -- a depressing prospect. Because of that, I always go for The Oracle, and to be honest? I think it's better than both of those.

Hanging Gardens rush might be interesting to try.

Surprised by GL preference.

Post patch its stonehenge/pyramids for early GE and the wonder cascale I can create if I hit Hagia Sophia to get another GE.

I've also been experimenting with no workers opening moves and relying sorely on liberty and Pyramids or captured workers for my early economy.
