Not sure, maybe a problem with the installer. It might be fixed with the upcoming, then again, it might not be. In the meanwhile, try turning off your movies. At least you'll be able to do some gaming.
In your CivilizationIV.ini (located in My Docs\My Games\Sid's Civ 4\) change the following line:
NoMovies = 0 -> change it to 1
There are other fixers for other problems, good hunting. And if you dont have an ini file...it's an ongoing problem, no fixer that I am aware of. In any case, welcome to the forum.
if you have a stick in your eye, poke a hole in the bottom of a paper cup and put it over your eye so the stick is held stationary (bandaid works too), and seek medical attention...i think that's what you're supposed to do. It's been a long while since boyscout and first-aid class.
you do it through the CivilizationIV.ini file located in the folder i mention. Try this.
set NoMovies = 1 (in the ini file)
clear cache - assuming you're running windows XP, the cache folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\cache, delete the contents of the folder.
Now, the Application Data folder is hidden so you either have to un-hide the folders or type the path in the address bar in My Computer. To un-hide, click on Tools->Folder Options->View->and select "Show hidden files and folders". Leave it as that for now afterward, since you might need to clear your cache again.
There are many other tweaks you can do to your CivilizationIV.ini file so you should look through the threads, start with Fix-it List.
As I have mentioned, if you do not see an .ini file, it's an ongoing problem.
