F11 toggles globe view (far enough out that you can see the clouds). If you use the mousewheel or pagedown/up to zoom between globe and non-globe (closer in) view, there is always a zoom level that is skipped, which means you unintentionally go too far in/out. For example, let's say there are a few zoom levels close to the map, and a few further out:

If I'm at the 4th 'c' and zoom out once, it skips to the 1st 'f'. Or if I'm at the 2nd 'f' and zoom in, it moves two places to the 5th 'c'. The skipping only occurs when you transition between the 'c' and 'f' regions.
