Good work Eivind, about damn time! :goodjob: Now I'm REALLY against you joining the other game... ;)

Allies for me, I'll start a thread.

I had a strategy... building units and watching them get wiped out. :)

Eivind's was unbeatable, he just bombed out the cities and took them with paratroopers. It was so mobile that his tanks were struggling to catch up with the front, and it was unstoppable apparently even with veteran AA guns. :(

I have not played this scenario a lot, but I quickly realized that fighting a two front war would be to damn hard for the Germans. That's why I became very glad when Darius proposed an alliance against Britian. Then I could concentrate all my strenght on wiping out the Brits at first, and then the Soviets. The agreement was that he would take Scandinavia first and then help me crush Britain. But I managed it all by myself, and wondered what to do next. It was quite natural that my next step would be attacking Soviet to win the game.

But all in all it was not without a price, I lost more planes than I lost land units. It was also very practical when I researched paratroopers right before the ivasion of the Soviet Union. That way it didn't matter whether or not he pillaged the road (wich annoyed me big time, as I was mobilizing for the war).

I was afraid for a while, when my supplyline became huge. I honestly don't think that I could wage a very offensive war against you for any longer. So if the scenario didn't end before you where all wiped out, you still might have a chance.

I was also about to invade USA :) Even though I knew that it was very daring I began to make units for such an operation. That's why I became frustrated when my production got screwed. I was about to produce some aircraft carriers and capitol ships. I had a military build up going on in Iceland.

Apart from those large operations I mainly just improvised the tactics as turns went by.

Well you would have had enormous trouble with an invasion of the US because I was entirely prepared for an attack especially one via Greenland and Iceland. I was going to destroy all the airfields but that got delayed so I just put a force of a battleship (which you sunk) And several fighters in Halifax.

If the scenario was delayed for 30 more turns, I would have had my task force ready for Operation Dragoon, OR the invasion of Ireland. Whichever seemed more logistically supportable at the time. :) I had just begun to create Lancaster bombers in my cities when Eivind took Moscow. What a bummer... :(

Good job though... I can't even do what you did against the AI in this amount of turns most of the time. :)

Darius shouldn't have attacked me though, that really screwed us both. He could have used those units in the defense of Russia, and I could have had more units to fight the Italians with.

Generally, if the Allies and Soviets allow the Axis to build up, they are dead. If they start fighting each other, it only makes it worse.

Starting off, the Soviets need to buy time and build their production capacity up while the Allies defend fiercly against the Axis, then when the Allies have either lost all of France or held the Axis, the Soviets should start pushing in.

There was no Minor Allied player in this game, though, right? That really makes the game unbalanced when there a Minor Axis player, but no Minor Allied player. Even more so than if it was switched.

Good game. Maybe I should have turned on the Axis.... would have made the game much more interesting. :groucho:

Nope, no Minor allied player. Didn't seem to make much difference though, I think France has no effect. French Africa can only attack Tripoli and MAYBE Spain if Germany takes it. Greece seems like the only useful area because of it's strategic importance to the defense of Egypt.

Seriously, my attack on the British made almost no difference at all. If I had stuck with the Allies I still wouldn't have been at war with Germany until long after Britain was destroyed, since it would have taken that long to build up any kind of force. Even then I would have lost. This game didn't hinge on anything I did, but the fall of Britain.

Absolutely right, we had no chance of winning when he won over there. It really makes me feel bad that because of my foolishness I lost it for both of us.

France can actually have all the effect in the world. A human player defending can make it much more difficult for the Axis player to advance so quickly and can inflict many more casualties. Greece is also important to slow them down. Although. the minor allies position is lessened quite a bit if they don't have a supportive Allied player though.

The main thing the Allies and Soviets need is time. Once they get up to some good unit techs, they can slowly start to pound the Axis back.

Congrats to all players for being in one of only two ZWK PBEMs that reached the end. Now its only the Allied player who has yet to win a PBEM.

This is also the first time I've seen the germans concentrate on air power instead of tanks where they have the upper hand. Maybe we can have some insight as to how the Axis went down the tech tree as well? what bombers were the Axis using that they were able to decimate even veteran AA guns enmasse?

They were nothing but He-111's and then Bf-110C's escorting them. His casualties of bombers must have been huge, but apparently it was worth it as the tactic worked.

Yes, just veteran He-111's. Lost many brave pilots though, but for a good cause :D

I actually went down the tech tree concentrating on tank-techs, but never got to really put them into action.
