u have toi get nukes faster, so basically u have to set a direct cours for nukes and get them and get cities that produce ton of shields and build like crazy although other ppl do that other ways but i usaully never get there as i have already won before Nuclear weapons are discovered

when you play on higher dificulty you can get IBCM at 1800-1900 and even before 1800 :nuke:

At higher difficulty levels, it's easy research everything much earlier than in lower levels.

In the Monarch level game I just finished ( my first :) ), I had all tech before the 1700's. By 1700 when I won the game, I had over 50 ICBMs

What he said. Sometimes at Emperor I get them before 1700 AD. In a typical Emperor game, I usually hit the Modern Age by the mid 1600s.

It also helps, when you know you'll get the tech for ICBMs (Satellites?) in two turns or so, to start pre-building the nukes. Then when you discover that tech, instead of clicking on 'Okay' click on 'What's the big picture' and when you get your tech tree, click on your domestic advisor. Then switch all of those prebuilds over to ICBMs. This will change the build before the shields get applied.

My Advice

Build up a big empire and then switch to science and wealth so you research a whole lot. Don't build any military except for defence against barbarians. And when threatend be a kiss @$$. That way you get to the modern age before every one else. Once manhattan project is built switch all production to ICBM and Tac. Nuke.

Thanks

huh?

In the late game i usually have an enormus income so I can rush lots of nukes (2nd turn ofcourse) and then totally wipe out the enemy, but then there's A LOT of global warming

I do that.

And to the other people...I play on Chieftain (don't laugh, I'm a newbie). Why is it faster in, say, Monarch or Deity than in Chieftain? Please explain. Thank joo. :D

The AI is crippled research wise at Chieftain. Regent is an even playing field, and above Regent the AI gets bonus' to tech research. The AI also tends to trade a lot, so it's not uncommon to be way far behind in the early game above monarch.

Yeah, how fast the AI researches is a huge factor in the tech rate - in my current Monarch game, I (Japan, isolated on a map of eastern Asia) was way behind the AI - I just got Chivary, while the AI powers were on the first teir of the industial techs. Fortunalty, a weak nation ended up getting the Great Library, so I sent in a bunch of Samuri & Trebucets, and defeated their riflemen. I then managed to go for and get Darwin, and from their started to outpace AI in tech - its 1395, and I am a turn away from getting tanks.

Higher difficulties (emperor, deity) give the AI civs a 60% tag on their builds and also makes them trade techs with each other very aggresively. This tremendeously speeds research. Under these conditions, it is not uncommon (if you survive ;)) to build ICBMs well before 1300.

Nukes are toys, not really useful for winning the game.

Most people can easily win the game before nukes, or without the need for nukes.
