-Prethread- NCNESIOT: Blackened Skies

Alrighty lets finally get my preferences down

Australasia - I have fond memories of playing Australia in SKNES II, and I feel like this Australia will be in a similar vein, it looks big and like a powerful nation in the Asian region, while still being somewhat out of the way allowing me to be relatively on my own. While i'm ok with diplomacy being somewhat controlled by the UK, I do not want to play a nation where the UK is trying to dictate my spending/production, so I would rather not have this nation if a strong willed/domineering player gets the UK, though it doesn't really look like there are that many going for the UK right now.

The German Nationalist Socialist Alliance - I place these guys at number 1 because I honestly can't choose between them and Australia. I like the idea of being a relatively strong power, as well as being a more Nationalist socialist power, as well as the idea of working with two other players to control Germany sounds interesting.

The Russian Empire - A non socialist Russia in 1930 sounds interesting, as well as the fact that it looks like a slightly weaker great power. I want to be able to play a strong regional country with some influence but wouldn't roflstomp everyone else, and Russia seems like an interesting country, especially with a greater polish population. And I would kinda like to take a great power out for a spin once in a while.

The Bavarian Workers' Council Republic - I was talking to Crezth and Bavaria sounded fun and interesting, relatively able to be left alone and able to create really good working and living conditions, they sound like a fun country to build up with out too too much interference.

Turkey - Similar reasons as to why I like Australia, also the country name is interesting, and it has an interesting position for diplomacy.

Honestly all of these countries look and sound very fun, and I can't really choose which to put 1st, so I'm just leaving my preferences, and I want the GM's to give me the country they think I will like the best and have the most fun with :)

Yeah in 1917 the UK was a de facto one party state but then the Popular front started making headway from there pretty quickly.

@Tolni in that case you could indicate which faction you'd like to play as and hope for the best. If you're looking for an expansionist military state right off the bat, might I direct your attention to Bulgaria (not trying to be ironic)? Romania and Turkey can both be solid choices as well

Hmm, I don't see how could Bulgaria would be expressionistic in this situation. Seems rather trapped. And it has the unfortunate (lift swear filters for IOT 2016 pls pls) borders from OTL 1942, to boot!

Well if you're a smaller nation, wouldn't you want to expand and get more resources? All that juicy Romanian oil....;)

Greetings again, flesh ones! It is I, CAMS, yet again, here to bring you an important message from Crezth who communicated it to me in morse code while fidgeting in the protective shell I've stored him in. Or is it "her?" Goodness knows I can't keep pronouns straight. But enough idle chatter ----- BEHOLD!!!

I've also been instruc- err, ADVISED to present you with a complete copy of THE RULES. Apparently they are key to "understanding" the Stats, but I do not understand this because there is nothing at all confusing about the stats.

The front page has also been updated with this "information."

THAT IS ALL! RETURN TO YOUR MENIAL TASKS!

CAMS out ~

Right, I'm suddenly having second thoughts about joining this. When your ruleset comes in a .pdf document, maybe it's time to go home.

It's not the PDF that's the most impressive. They have a macro written to update the DB.

What exactly has you feeling uneasy? It's definitely not the longest ruleset out there, and I tried to make it very easy to understand. Please give it a second try. :)

To support Crezth, I'd also mention that the player doesn't have to learn the rules to participate. A GM is the "interface" between the rules and the players that's gonna make it playable even for those who don't want to know the exact rules.

Meanwhile, people like me love to dig into the data and the game mechanics. That was the biggest challenge I've always had with EQ's games up until BOTWAWKI (although I still don't know how the war mechanics works there...) - trying to figure out what makes sense from mechanical perspective and what doesn't. Not that it ever stopped me from joining, though...

I guess I should have made my mission statement clear from the start. That's my bad; poor showmanship. I think Section 5 (lol) of the PDF straightens it out:

Rules said:
5. Sending Orders

Now that you have some idea of how all these moving parts interact, it’s time to get into how to send orders. I won’t spend too long on this – many of you probably already know quite well how to send orders – but just as a refresher:

• Include your spending orders in clear, unambiguous language. Unspent EP is recycled back into the economy (NOT wasted!) so your spending orders do not need to be comprehensive.

• If you don’t feel like doing math, don’t sweat it. Just ballpark it and tell us ho
much of a thing you want. You may accrue a little debt if you do this, but a little debt won’t kill you.

• On that note, feel free to send inexact spending orders. This is not the same as unclear spending orders: I mean like, “Spend a fourth of the income on my ISI program, a fourth of the income on raising new infantry, a fourth of the income on spying on China, and bank the rest.” That’s TOTALLY acceptable!

• Send orders to at least Nuka. You may also PM them to me if you want feedback on something, but it’s not necessary.

The mechanics are all there to lend support to the structure. The very core of it -- you making freeform decisions -- is preserved, and the interface (and our judgment) is sufficient to implement whatever you want on minimal exact information.

I wouldn't call it a ruleset. It's more of a user's guide, really.

So...you mean I don't have to constantly dig into it to check if I'm doing things properly?

Not at all! The point of this is actually to REDUCE the amount of digging and giving you a clearer picture of what is actually going on with your nation from the stats. No more vague guessing yay :D

Nuh-uh-uh, not acceptable. Here's a quote from the ruleset/userguide:
Each year, you may spend at least as much EP as is listed in this column, either on military units or projects of your devising. EP that you don’t spend is not banked (no EP is ever banked in this game), it is reinvested into the economy.

If we see a "bank" order it's just reinvested :)

Can we specify where it's re-invested?
Into economy. Paying the economy workers for doing their economy things in their economy work places.

But I think ultimately it means infrastructure upkeep, government investment into profitable private enterprises, subsidies to crucial industrial sectors, etc.

If you want a specific investment you can just spend it like you would normally spend money (instead of 50% new units 50% reinvestment just say 50% infrastructure)

Honestly, it involves way less work than EQs latest..:
