[RD] War in Gaza: News Thread

Would be nice wrt Fatah-controlled areas.

Unfortunately they are doing the same creeping slow expansionist genocide stuff there too. Bombing refugee camps, seizing and bulldozing property, ignoring or empowering armed militias to use violence to drive Palestinians off more and more land. More and more marginalisation and destruction of Palestinian society to replace them with settlers and make it impossible for them to live there with dignity and retain their culture and livelihood.

It's all still about dispossession, expulsion, and replacement, is all just slower and quieter because there hasn't been the same counter violence against it recently.

The "but Hamas" stuff rings extremely hollow when the West Bank is treated the way it is. All Israel wants to do is kill enough people that they can keep Hamas walled off from retaliating too scarily, so everyone can get back to the quiet slow colonial method they prefer.

Notably:
Unrwa was not involved in the talks as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been refusing to deal with it since last Monday, on the basis of claims, so far unproven, of affiliations of some of the agency’s staff with Hamas or Islamic Jihad.

Might as well kill off the messengers while they're at it.

Israel clears way to shutter Al Jazeera. Netanyahu says ‘terror channel’ airs incitement.
JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday vowed to shut down Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel, calling it a “terror channel” that spreads incitement, after Parliament passed a law clearing the way for the closure.

A profile on the Australian food aid worker among the group killed by the IDF, Lalzawmi Frankcom. A long time food aid worker from Ukrainian refugees to Haiti to Pakistan to the Australian bushfires - https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article...the-world-her-final-job-was-in-gaza/76n8kt6se

And a video from that organisation a few days ago:

The Australian Council for International Development, the peak body for aid and humanitarian agencies, said humanitarian workers in conflict zones should be ensured safety by combatants to carry out their lifesaving work.

"It is truly tragic that an Australian aid worker, working to provide food to starving civilians, has been killed in this fashion," said chief executive Marc Purcell.

"We call on the Australian government to urge the Israeli government to cease attacks on aid convoys and to allow for the safe land passage of humanitarian assistance.

"Further, Australia should protest in the strongest possible terms the starvation of civilians. Starving civilians is a breach of the laws of war, international law and common decency."
The organisation is pausing operations while calling out the use of food as a weapon of war:
The WCK team was traveling in a deconflicted zone in two armored cars branded with the WCK logo and a soft skin vehicle.

Despite coordinating movements with the IDF, the convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza on the maritime route.

“This is not only an attack against WCK, this is an attack on humanitarian organizations showing up in the most dire of situations where food is being used as a weapon of war. This is unforgivable,” said World Central Kitchen CEO Erin Gore.

AJ is run by Qatar, where the head of Hamas lives too, so it's not that strange that it was called that by Israel.
And yet, about as useful as prefixing anything Israel says with "Israeli-run" ;)

It's interesting that the geopolitical connotations are only ever labelled in one direction, ya see.

Qatar hosts Hamas and the Brotherhood (and the Taliban, in the past) at the US' request so they can serve as a backchannel for negotiations. The Emir offered to expel Hamas recently but US said no.
I'm sure curious about the real politics between the US and Middle East

Qatar hosts everyone to make itself an indispensible diplomatic player.

The Zionist-run military claims it doesn't attack civilians
They just call everyone in Gaza 'Hamas ' (including UN and international aid workers and entire hospirals and kids etc) so there are no 'civilians '.

Yeah that's deliberate targeting. They'll claim they were Hamas pretty soon.

The Onion's X account just posted this again. It may as well be a real headline
