And we begin again.

As we go forward we all recognize that both sides are in a propaganda war and accept that is ongoing. There is no need to get into arguments over which sources are propaganda or not. Each side may provide links to news and each thread participant can decide for themselves what is valuable to them. Proving or disproving what is propaganda is an endless circle game to be avoided.

We need to lower the levels of animosity towards all posters. None of us are leading or participating directly in the combat. Enough harm is being done on the battlefields and in the cities and we do not need to bring additional animosity here. Remember, our focus is on current news related to the war. It is not on pre invasion events, whataboutism, or anyone's personal desire to widen the conversation to include pet peeves and personal interests. We will thread ban those who cannot abide with civility or posting guidelines. these threads move fast enough that posts can be be quickly buried so don't feel the need to respond to every slight or disagreeable thought that is posted. Those to shall pass.

What we want is for this thread to be a source of information for those of any persuasion and meaningful discussion. You are all a great source of both knowledge and information from all over the world. Contribute without rancor or anger.

Please do not copy or quote any posts from the previous thread into this one. Start fresh!

Radio reports minor gains for the UA this morning, but this was unexpected :

The Luftwaffe is back :D

“We want to demonstrate the agility and swiftness of Air Forces as a first responder and showcase NATO Air Power. In addition, we as the Luftwaffe show that we can plan, organise and execute such a large exercise. We take responsibility. The collaboration of 24 Nations hones our interoperability and enables a credible deterrence against a potential aggressor. The transatlantic dimension – we will have 100 US Air National Guard aircraft flying in Europe – is a rock-solid proof of NATO cohesion and solidarity,” Lieutenant General Gerhartz

I expect this is about exercises in Noerthern Europe right ?

Not actually NATO flying all over Ukraine.

Eastern Europe yes, they are simulating a surprise Russian missile attack on Germany, followed by an amphibious landing in Rostock iirc.

Spoiler :

Germany, in a fictitious year of the future: NATO's years-long confrontation with the eastern military alliance OCCASUS has reached the soil of the Federal Republic. Special forces of the Brückner organization and other troops of OCCASUS could be smuggled into Germany from the east. Now air and ground forces hold the entire Klebius region, about a quarter of the country. And the next tactical move is already in sight: The OCCASUS alliance is trying to push north to the Baltic Sea and take possession of the port of Rostock. To do so, it is using a mix of sabotage operations and the use of special forces supported from the air. As a result, the Western alliance triggers a state of defense under Article 5 of the NATO treaty.

That feels like a very-not-subtle hint sent east.

The exercise was planned years ahead, no way it has anything to do with the current war, but it was what was on the news here this morning, in other times it would hardly be mentioned I suspect.

Every exercise requires a fictitious scenario in order to train military operations realistically based on it.

Of course, the logistics and preparation for such exercices are prepared years in advance.
The scenario, though, I suspect can be altered pretty quickly by just changing names to send a message.

Lol, "OCCASUS"
In Spanish "ocaso" means decline, decay, something near to its end.

Not pun intended i suppose. :mischief:

Probably intended actually, "occasus" has the exact same meaning in latin.

The Luftwaffe is back :D
As name, Luftwaffe was never retired from service like the Wehrmacht (defense force) and Kriegsmarine (war navy). Similarly, Heer is still used for the army though neither organization has any official links to its wartime counterparts.

The Luftwaffe has been back since 1955 when Germany formally inaugurated the federal defense force. :)

What we thought future warfare would look like:

Spoiler :

What future warfare looks like:

To be fair, what goes down on the other end of that drone he is operating might at least briefly look something like the Hollywood clip? It's a matter of perspective also.

But then war was always a combination of mostly the utterly boring combined with the staggeringly stupid, interspersed with flashes of mortal danger and sheer terror, in ways that Hollywood could not, and would not, try to replicate.

Soon the human operator wont be necessary and we will have swarms of killer full AI drones, tireless, unjammable, 100% accurate, looking for enemies to kill day and night. Same as in other Tom Cruise's movie:

Putin's propagandists are at it again. This time, they say they need entire PLA for their war.
You sure they requested 2-3 millions Chinese troops in all seriousness?
Or perhaps their words might be taken out of context, or this was a joke or sarcasm? :)

From the Bbc.
This chain of supposed planned destruction of russian-controlled assets, seems to be the new mo. At least Russia bothers to first evacuate the citizens.
