Firends and Defensive Pact for 1000 Years, then Backstab...

That's why you need to continuously (on high difficulty) "propose" deals to the AI to discover who is really your friend. A "friend" who won't fork more than 200gp for a lux is not really a "friend" and you should act accordingly. Also, Bismarck, Caesar, Washington, Attila, Dido (and probably...

More than bpt, you will need at least 6 unused GSs when you reach advanced ballistics.

    Science & Culture benchmarks

I think it's better to speak in turns. I don't keep track, but I know I will lose if: 1- I have not reached education with NC around turn 100, 2- I have not more than 800bpt by turn 200. These numbers will usually lead to science victory between turn 230-270.

    Research agreements formula

Yes, but as a game mechanic, it's pretty good. You have to pay more if you are to gain more science out of the deal. I don't want to be back to the infamous tech trading, where all AI would basically be at the same level, ruining the game.

You will not believe this start

Especially if you can put a city on that gold lux near your spearmen. Now THAT will be a killer city with the incas. should be a peaceful and uneventful game :)

Going tall: The best way to start

In my science games, I always go tradition. My goal is to have, by turn ~100, 4 cities, National College, 4 archers, and reached education and construction. Depending on the map, this will results in slight unhappiness, cash shortage or dead by turn 60. If I get through, I win <t240. If I...

    Good/bad Wonders

I have been able to build the HG twice in a row (immortal), but not the oracle. With the incas, my opening strategy favors construction though, that may explains it.

Looking for some tips to improve game play

It's good to have a strategy on immortal, so turtling means you are going for a science victory. As a general rule for me, you need by turn 100: 4 cities, National College, Education, and at least 5 composite bowmen (or the money to upgrade existing archers). My main concern on immortal or deity...

    OCC Culture Victory Stratagey Help

Looks pretty good. I have never been able to achieve a sub 300 cultural victory in G&K, OCC or not. You are sitting on a lot of unused faith though, maybe you could have bought more GAs or used more missionaries early to spread it? Spreading a religion is key for a cultural victory, and it...

    Making Non-tradition policy choices work

Liberty should work well with a religion. The mayas seem well suited because of the pyramid bonus: +2 science, +2 faith. If you get the messenger of the gods belief, this should jumpstart your early science output. Without going ICS, mid games "regular" science tips still apply (specialists, GS...

Nuclear War - how to not lose experienced units?

I have never seen the AI use tactical nukes. I would bring my own nukes to be launched from carrier or subs to make way for your army to reach russian capitol asap to take it out.

A couple of Deity related post patch questions

I don't know how you can do all that under 80 turns. Produce a settler, 7 archers, get enough gold to upgrade them, going for construction, build two libraries, going to philosophy and building NC? Probably need a worker or two as well. Impressive.

A couple of Deity related post patch questions

Why do you aim on 4 cities for science? I find 3 is usually enough? Agree on the land grabbing.

A couple of Deity related post patch questions

I will prioritize libraries and National College over my fourth city and granaries. You have to check every turn to sell your lux, it's tiresome but as soon as they have more than 150 gold, I sell. There is also a bit of a bargain involved, as I build less archers than I used to. I...

    Low priority buildings?

As I usually aim for very focused science victories (immortal, or deity if I want punishment), everything that helps growth is top priority on my list (granary, water mill), I will usually also build a shrine to get faith for an extra great scientist at the end of the game, then I focus on...

    Mad Monty Rush

I have only won deity by turtleing up and following a "flawless" science exploit/strategy. Cooking up the map helps a bit too if you can get a coastal start with only one or two close neighbours. I prefer to play immortal.

    Legalism Abuse: GnK edition

anyone tried this recently? I'm tempted, but delaying aqueducts and landed elite doesn't look good to me in case you are going for a tall empire.

    Immortal has become tougher.

You are out of luck as your neighbours are notorious early agressors. Imagine a town like Orleans with the incas, mostly 5 or 6 food tiles between mountains with terrace farms :crazyeye: But, yes you are correct, since new patch, the AI will settle and expand in your living space very early.

Hiawatha an absolute nightmare on Emperor now

Yep, pre fall patch, the AI took a bit of time to actually launch the settler spamming routine, probably prioritirising other buildings or units. That gave you more space to install your '4 city' empire :) . Now, they are begining earlier and they are unstoppable unless you go to war.

    Immortal has become tougher.

I only play pangaea. Whereas it prevents (sometime) runaway civs, I think it's more exciting to actually be on your toe the whole game because everyone can come and get you easily! The only thing I regret from the patch so far is the return of the ugly city spamming. I have seen the huns...
