The obvious hypocrisy of many who intentionally disappear when the flag is lowered, while vocierfously whining about the conduct of obvious civilians who either don't know better or don't really care, doesn't come as a shock to me at all for the reasons I already stated.

Your "point" is predicated on the accusation that people are somehow ducking out on colors because there are not throngs of people happily standing by outside within sight of a flag pole at 0800 and sunset every day. Obviously you assumption is ridiculous, why should there be throngs of people happily standy by outside withing sight of a flag pole at 0800 and sunset every day?

As well you better. While nearly everybody would complain about a civilian not doing so, it would quite likely negatively impact the rest of your career in the military if you failed to do so. Do you deny it?

Negatively impact my career? What?!?! Hardly, if I see someone not stop I don't go chasing him down to write and uber scathing report, I just assume they are in a car and can't hear the music. If I see them do so intentionally I just correct them then and there and move on.

Um, retreat is typically not performed at sunset as you allege...

You are absolutely right, and the special time the commander sets in every military installation I have ever been on is published in the Plan of the Day every morning, and is the whatever time sunset is for that evening.

Well lets see, we can go off of a random internet site or the person with almost a decade of actually doing this sort of thing. I mean, its not like I was an OOD every day for months at a time whose job is to conduct things like colors. No sir, lets let arm chair private Form tell us all how it REALLY is.

WHY LOOK, I happen to have a todays POD for the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command right in front of me!!! What a happy twist of fate. Let me see...uniform of the day? No. GMT schedule? No. Colors? Why its at 1942. Thats strange, 1942 isn't the end of the work day but Form, the omnicient source of all military knowledge, says it has to be at the end of the work day. I will make sure to bring this up to the highest echelons immediately.

You know I know that my CO has already picked the set in stone arbitrary time of 1942 to conduct evening colors every day that is entirely independant of sunset because Formaldehyde decreed that this must be so, but in the oddest coincidence I have ever seen guess what the actual natural sunset time is for Charleston SC is on 03 September 2009???
