The Deity Challenge Lineup - Game #9 - Rome

Using "my" Wide Commerce Strategy, I managed to score a really easy win on this really terrible map.

Screenie 1: Thanks game for letting me know there's an antiquity site 50 turns before I'd get to dig it up

Screenie 2: Thanks for the free money, buddy :)

Screenie 3: Aaaah maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan >_<

Screenie 4: doesn't matter, we win

Some comments: I piled all this religion for nothing, didn't get to finish Commerce in time to buy 3 Merchants with it aaaand do absolutely nothing with them :D Megabucks were rolling steadily than ever but it was a struggle until Markets and City connections were up, as Rome you fall easily to the trap of "build everything in every city", a neat UA but a tad useless. Conquest was only manageable post Frigates but I couldn't be bothered obviously. Culture was a bit slow, I suppose with one city less it would have been faster but meh, it wouldn't really matter. I estimated the vote on the next session, but one of them hit Atomic just one turn before the vote. That got pushed back and we were in the UN session. After that I only had 11 turns to prepare everything, guys didn't want to vote for me o_O fortunately I only needed to win over one of them (got 2 in the end), even my longtime allies turned their back on me, hmph

I had factories and everything, If I staffed them with engineer specialists, I would have walked that competition. It wouldn't have mattered anyway because the vote was right around the corner innit

T302 Science Victory

Spoiler :

My game was quite boring.
Completed a 3-city National College on T105, then expanded to 4.
Revolutionary wave -40 unhappiness was annoying; 5/6 other civs went Order
Portugal was very close to Cultural victory
End timing was terrible, as you can see with the leftover faith; I was just clicking buttons wanting it to be over with

Spoiler :

Very late CV. Start was extremely slow, eventually had 7 city liberty.
NC 5 city 125
Education 143
ST 195
Plastics 237
internet 257

Spoiler :

Rome settled on the isthmus for the canal. Pantheon was tundra faith. Got religion with happiness to shrine and culture to temple. Mongolia initially conquered Ottomans and Brazil but got eliminated by several AIs, and Iroquois controlled his capital.
PT was the only pre modern wonder built. AI eventually passed arts funding and +culture to WW, which means the culture runaways would be difficult to pass. Won both WF and IG easily, also had world religion passed and most wonders after modern era, but still not enough tourism to beat 80k Polynesia and 50k Iroquois without going to war. Eventually destroyed ALL Polynesian cities with armies of missile cruiser, stealth bombers, nukes, xcoms etc. 3 GM bombs on Iroquois, after DoWing his cities to liberate Ottoman and Mongolia. CV win immediately after arranging Iroquois to take out the final city of Polynesia.
Would've won a lot quicker going for sv. Played around with full exploration for the hidden sites, but not impressed. Also lost 2 WL votes on purpose to not win diplo. This map is definitely one of the harder maps of DCL.

Spoiler :

Science Victory, turn 341. SV was backup plan after Globalization when it became clear I would never get my Freedom Trade routes online for any kind of timely DiploVC. This was my second try at the map after loosing by SV on T328 with an Autocracy run.

Went Liberty but missed the ’mids and only put down four cities because three of my expo locations were spoiled. Tried to clear out a forward settled expo with the UU but had no success at all, and ended up waiting on arty to take that city.

I wanted to try this map because it is listed as one of the harder ones and the start looked to be about perfect for Dance of the Aurora. I really like the UA.
