The Deity Challenge Line-up #28 - Russia

Heroic epic isn't all that if you can't take care of your units. If you get to rank up your units to make them more powerful and built in heroic epic city to get that morale boost which is a lot more helpful with statue of zeus which also adds a 15% when attacking cities.

My bad. I thought it was another +15 on a unit. I have to wonder how did my Venetian XCOMs start with Blitz, I forgot all about it. Maybe I had Alhambra, I can't remember

Spoiler :
My 2nd attemps and I failed. I let Shaka go out of control and he won a CV (not domination, I know this is funny hahahaha). Went Tradition but decided to go down liberty. Hiwartha was leader at pre-Industrial but was smashed by everyone. Then it was the Shoshone being douche very much in my game. Was hilarious when he settle right in the middle of shaka, morocco and venice. They all DOW him soon and he got smashed by Shaka. Hilariously hated by everybody as he spam too many cities.

The map wasn't hard, just I kept making so much mistakes. Shaka was basically killing everyone and I became his friends with benefits. Thats where I lost. Shouldnt continue playing. I thought I could go for a SV/CV because I was the tech leader but I was only able to take morocco captial in industrial era

I got tech lead close to industrial era but I seemed to not know which civ I should attack first? My SP was like 3 tradition and full liberty + 2 into rationalism for the specialist and then autocracy. I shoulda tech for plastics instead, i still think I could go domination but it was a mistake.

Okay looking at all pictures of others, everything I did is all wrong

Spoiler :
Turn 317 late SV. First deity victory. Did not aimed for SV at all cause i thought of going to Domination which i did eventually after i reloaded. The Ai's are hilarious at times, was too easy to bribe iroquios to keep attacking other people (and even backstab lol) despite hating me a lot. Instead of forming a coalition to destroy me, Shaka and Iroquois continuously war with each other which was hilarious and gave me time to build a massive force and take them down easily. Gandhi made it easier for me by nuking out iroquois army lol and he was left with nothing. City states snagged up one of gandhi's city, hahahha. This funny Enrico, I liberated him from byzantium and he denounce me then later asked for DoF lol.

I don't think units can start with blitz unless you have Alhambra and Brandenburg or the Tier 2 Autocracy tenet. Military Academy + Brandenburg + Autocracy still leaves new units 15 xp short. But I think Zulu gets an xp discount with their UB? Or is that Russia with Krepost?

If you want a late domination and you missed the Cavalry/Arty window, the go-to option is XCOMs, drop them like it's hot :lol:

Alhambra's promotion is FREE, meaning that drill 2 only costs 10XP. Basically if you get a unit with 3 promotions (either Total War or Brandenburg Gate), with Alhambra you get 4 promotions (but only for melee of course).

If you had both Brandenburg Gate and Total War, you would only be able to get 4 promotions with the Zulu, since they require less XP for promotions (this will give you a total of 75XP, which is just enough for level 5 with Zulu, but 25XP too little for everyone else). The Zulu with Total War, having Alhambra and Brandenburg Gate in the same city could give 5 promotions on melee units which is quite nice.

So this is an incredibly easy map. For a non-cooked map, probably in the 1% top maps you can roll since it has salt, strong civ, and overall good position. I'm sure it is possible to do a sub-200 turn science victory. I think if I played it again I could get ~210 though sub 200 is just crazy.

Spoiler :

Really easy map and can probably win any victory condition on it though diplo is probably a pain due to venice.

Thanks! Definitely my fastest science victory by far. I seemed to struggle with World Congress strategy though. The only thing I got from it in this game is World's Fair. Is there any good posts/articles on World Congress strategy in particular when going for a science victory?

gg

You don't want the World Fair to early, you want it the latest as possible as you will most likely have the highest culture output the later it goes.

As far as other suggestions go I like the one where you get 33% on GS-Appeareance but you might piss somebody off with it and oftentimes it doesn't pass depends on the civs.

As far as your game goes, I can see quite a lot of big mistakes in your screenshots. Do not build wonders that don't help your victorycondition, the Ankgor Wat is a terrible terrible wonder and literally a massive waste of production. In the second screenshot I can see that you are just now building the National Epic , you are missing out on a lot of GS-Points which can make a big difference and shave a lot of turns from your finishingtime.

Another thing you could do when you got Gold/Happiness is to plant new cities. It obviously depends on your Gold/Happiness and if you will have the culture to get the last policies you need.

But just for the science output the math would be :

new City Science Production = NCSP
Total Sciencecosts left for victory = T
Total GreatScientists you will pop = GS
total turns of new city producing science = x

(GS * NCSP * 8 + NCSP * X) - T * 0.05 = Surplus/Deficit of new City

example

T = 150000 beakers
NCSP = 150
GS = 8
Total turns of new city producing science = 20

(8 * 150 * 8 + 150 * 20) - 150000 * 0.05

=9600 + 3000 - 7500 = 5100 Beakers Surplus

How do you delay world fair though? Do you not submit it on the first vote?

I never can seem to get the 33% GS appearance since usually more than half the other civs will be pissed off about it.

This map has a tons of production and I wasn't really sure what to use it on with all the hills and salt. I ended up going for Ankor Wat (didn't get it anyways) because I wasn't acquiring tiles fast enough so had to buy a lot of them (spend several thousand gold on tiles this game as the cost even with Russian unique building was around 200 per tile at the end).

I usually build National Epic around the time of public schools since that's when it seems like you have enough scientists to make the GS-points increase meaningful though maybe that's a mistake.

How do you have a new city produce 150 beakers in your example?
I don't see a point of delaying world's fair, the chance of winning the first one is highest if you're not running liberty wide empire.

Yeah but also winning it early while your base culture is crap won't really mean much anyway.

I really dislike the World Fair, the only way it becomes really useful is to win it late when your base culture has already been established, like I did in the Brazil game. However, if it comes around late, all AI cities will be well developed and at least one can snowball into a global superpower that can outproduce you easily

The 150 was a bit off, I first used this strategy with Korea as I felt like going liberty was bad but not having more than 4 cities seemed inefficent as well. A new city with all the sciencebuildings and 7 population gives 98.5 science/turn.
Obviously you can't always do it and it's very gamespecific but it could cut off some turns off your finishingtime.

As far as the World Fair goes, I really never had problems winning it. You really want to have the cultural citystates allied before you get the bonus.

I almost always choose WF as first resolution in science/diplo game - it allows me faster finish rationalism and/or get ideological tents.
By this time of game you should have cultural CSs allies + combine it with GA and GWs and you will get HUGE amount of culture - just plan ahead :)

I really think that's it's better to spend this few thousands of gold (from what?) on RAs or rush bought science buildings in your main cities rather than settle cities late (and increase your culture needed for policies and GAs +possible problems with happiness )

I thought it was a rule of thumb not to settle any cities after turn 100 if you're aiming for a 2xx win. Even when playing liberty.
