question: why does God need a plant (or something) to be "immortal"? It appears that way, in Genesis we're told Adam and Eve had become like Elohim, knowing good and evil, and access to the tree of life was blocked so they could not partake and live forever like Elohim. This tree or plant appears in the Epic of Gilgamesh too, strange stuff there... ;)

You're engaged, but didn't you say in another thread you were a virgin? I've never understood waiting for marriage, honestly you really should try before you buy.

It's a religious thing. I am well aware that there is some suboptimality involved, but I cannot agree with those who basically say that marriage before sex is immoral.

Well, most of the people making the arguments in the first place that YECs end up using (Ham and Hovind and the like) have in fact taken science classes. The fact that they still believe such obviously incorrect things is not because they never heard of good science.

I'm far from convinced that they actually believe most of the stuff they preach. It's hard to tell.

Now, I think there are a lot of Creationists who are only Creationists because they never had a good class on evolution (like my fianceé, for example).

That is something I have no problem believing.

Well, true; but whether they believe it or not, they espouse it, thus they can be considered YECs.

Unfortunate, but true. (On the other hand, she did tell me that I can teach evolution to our kids, which I will have to do if the schools don't.)

Marriage before sex is immoral? I think you transposed your words a little there. Personally I just don't understand either viewpoint, but hey, I'm not and never will be religious.

There are Creationists who are quite well educated, interestingly enough.
That's true. I guess I have to be more careful about what I say. ;)

I would say that educated creationists who still support creationism probably aren't "educated" in the fullest sense of the word. They're either deliberately ignoring what they've learnt, have repressed it, or have developed some sort of superiority complex where they think that they know better than the rest of the world's educated people. Being "educated" at one point doesn't necessarily mean that you stay "educated".

It'd be interesting to know what proportion of evangelical creationists actually believe what they teach to others, and what proportion don't believe it but still do it because they believe it is "right" in the eyes of God (or whatever). My personal view is that a large percentage of them probably really do manage to convince themselves that they know what they're talking about, and are superior to other educated people because they view the world "through the eyes of God" (or something). I'd imagine that those sorts of evangelical creationists would feel rather uncomfortable when confronted with theologians of their own faith who accept and embrace science.

Interesting. Is your fiancee willing to learn about evolution, or is she not particularly interested either way?

I think most of them believe it. Remember, just because someone is educated doesn't mean they're intelligent, and vise versa.

3 weeks  Respect!

You might want to rephrase that :D You know what they say, it's a joy forever. :p
 See below.
A few weeks back he sent me a picture of himself. He said he thought he looked a bit like a porn star, and I agreed. (The seedy Movember moustache and Hawaiian shirt did it.)

I think his avatar is of an Australian tennis player he likes. (Perhaps he really is a porn star, and she's of one of his many ladies - or he wishes so. :D )

In all fairness, there's about 20 of us to 1 of him. (Or 1 of whoever else that has the determination to take his place for a while.) So he can't possibly answer everything we ask of him. :)

The internet naturally tends to consist mostly of educated people, so it's a pretty harsh environment for creationists. ;)

Well my avatar is Serbian Tennis star Ana Ivanovic. She was voted the sexiest female athlete. For a long time I was having a Great composer as my avatar, but I recently started to have attractive women as my avatar, which is another of my great loves, do to speak. I have also had that famous dragonfly picture on the woman's breasts. It was an optical illusion, if you know what I mean. ;) I have also had hotforwords as my avatar, so the fact that I have had female avatars does not imply that I am a woman. Just to let you guys know, my current avatar has a boyfriend, so I know I would never be a a chance anyway. Neither of my avatars are my dream woman, but that is something I am not willing to say right now

Also if you want to see what I looked like with Emp's comment, then just look at the Member's photo thread and you will see my face and my injured hand somewhere in that thread. You will see the first cast and not he one I currently have one right now. I need to take a photo of that, but since I am going on a camp, I will not be here until Thursday, I might have some photos taken of me.

About the last statement, do you think that Stormfront is a place of intelligent people? Obviously with that comment you made, what does that make you? :mischief: I could not resist saying that.

@theskad. Yes I am hot, since it is 37C right now, o I am sweating a bit just being on the computer. Well if you have a look at my signature, you will see a thread about weight loss, which I am part of, which means that I am overweight and needing to lose weight.

Can we get back onto the main subject. When my finger is good enough for the cast to be removed, I will update the OP with lots of useful info.

You're obviously well enough to post, so could you answer the questions actually pertaining to Creationism?

I can't wait for the "Help tech Eran's kids evolution" thread :)

btw, congratulations!

Heh, yeah, that will be interesting. How to explain evolution to a kid?

Marriage before sex is immoral? I think you transposed your words a little there. Personally I just don't understand either viewpoint, but hey, I'm not and never will be religious.

Not at all - at least to hear some people describe it, getting married before you have had sex (with that person or with anyone) is a good way to be permanently sexually maladjusted. That is the impression I got from some posts here - but that may be a bit OT.

Interesting. Is your fiancee willing to learn about evolution, or is she not particularly interested either way?

She isn't really all that into science. I mean, I love her to death, but that just isn't one of the things we have in common. I am really a dilettante anyways. If she ever did have a good reason to care, it probably wouldn't be that hard - she, being LDS like me, doesn't have any religiously based problems.

I'd actually never heard of Stormfront before, but after looking them up I don't think I'd want to associate myself with them, somehow.

Man, I'm really wishing I hadn't made that statement in the first place. It sounds sillier each time I reread it. ;)

There doesn't seem to be much point in continuing to post questions until at least some of the first ones have been answered. Otherwise, you'll just be overwhelmed, and many of the questions will simply fade into obscurity. ;)

Maybe some people think that way, but I'm not one of those. Personally, I don't think it matters in the slightest whether you decide to have sex before marriage or not. It's your decision. The only thing I really don't think is good is making that decision because your religion thinks it is best. I say, make the decision (either way) because it's what you think is best.

But you're right, this is getting a bit OT.

I don't mind the occassional bump, but I'd prefer that this thread not be spammed with questions until a YEC starts replying.

Except that a lot of YEC claims to be logical and scientific.
Do you mean that a lot of Young Earth Creationism "claims" to be logical or "is" logical? If it's #1, then it's masquerading as scientific, which it isn't. Or are you trying to tell me that I'm arguing with the wrong person, because he thinks that what he believes is correct, and my statement that it's not logical is meaningless to him?

then why don't you simply close it right now, and any follow-up, too? (serious question)

I assume classical_hero has permission from TF for it, as Admin permission is necessary for an "Ask a..." thread. He should actually answer questions more often though, it gets very annoying.
