OK, here is the starting location. I can't see any reason to move, so I think I'll SIP.

Provisional roster is:

Me
Acken
ST
Bugs

I'll come back if/when there are any decisions to make, but we have our initial strategy in mind :)

T0 - I SIP, queue a scout, start researching Pottery, as we want to found, and there are Calendar lux. Move Warrior N towards forest, he disappointingly finds a clearing. :(

T1 - Warrior continues N and finds two more Sugar. Oral Tradition is a possible now.
T2 - Warrior crosses river towards another forest, finds a ruin. Will take 2 turns to get there.
T3 - Move Warrior, meet Ramkhamhaeng
T4 - Warrior pops a map, which shows nice lands to the N, including edge of Siam border, a mountain/river spot for an expo, with Cotton (Oral Tradition), Marble and a bunch of cows [Screenshot 1]
T5 - Warrior moves E, finds Mombasa for 30 gold. Scout finishes. Start on Monument. Scout goes W, finds ruin.
T6 - Scout becomes Scarcher. Warrior begins to curve back around to Capital.
T7 - Warrior finds barb camp and another ruin. Scarcher continues W, finds another mountain/river spot.
T8 - Warrior pops Culture! Joy. Open Liberty. Scarcher finds Kabul. Edinburgh grows. New citizen goes to bum work the sheep, inspired by Boudicca's faux Welshness. Idea: finish Monument quickly.
T9 - Scarcher finds another camp. Warrior crosses river again.
T10 - Finish Pottery. We have a pantheon choice.

Here's a map of the area. [Screenshot 2]. What sayest thou all?

Oral Tradition, Open Sky and God King are all natural choices, IMO.

[EDIT: Expo-wise, I think N near the mountain (maybe ON the sheep) is a good option if we can beat Ram to it, and W for the Salt?)

Nice. The location to the SE of capital may have Petra potential :)

I think Open Sky is more useful, there may be Horses in the area as well

Given the amount of animals (at least one at each suggested expo location) and the odds of finding some horses, I would go with open sky.

Here's a question, do we get the religious benefits if settle on the sheep?

Both open sky and oral tradition give culture. I suppose we go for God-King if we want other things like faith and science.

Rephrasing the question: So do we get the extra culture if we settle on the sheep?

looking at the screenshot, we only have one lux in the first two rings. I haven't seen that in a while.

I'm fine with stealing workers as long as we get a play by play report on how it is done and how you get them safely home. Stealing workers is something I suck at.

I'm really interested in the decision making process and what factors come into play.

Getting them home is the other challenge. Yesterday I managed to get three workers but lost two of them and their escorting scouts before I could get them home.

In order of how they were posed:

1. No, Open Sky gives culture for pastures. When you settle on a resource, you can't make the improvement. Which isn't always a good enough reason not to.

2. Yes, let's steal workers if we can. Get off to a really good start.

3. Yes, I think map was generated with Strategic Balance.

Open Sky it is then...

T10 contd…

Found Open Sky pantheon. Scarcher moves SW and finds Sinai and a ruin. Warrior moves SE and also finds a ruin. Not bad for ruins so far. Let it continue!

T11 - 1st Ruin has 95 gold, 2nd Ruin makes a Pictish Warrior. Lovely stuff (“Not my words, Michael, the words of Shakin’ Stevens”). Sell an Embassy to Trollface.

T12 - Scarcher moves W and finds yet another ruin. We’re so lucky. Monument finishes. Switch citizen to Sugar. Queue another Scout. Warrior moves E and finds a Barb camp and YET ANOTHER RUIN! :D

T13 - Warrior moves close to ruin. Scarcher opens ruin, finds map showing a desert W of Sinai, Korea’s borders and another ruin. We might not get that one. Better to move close to Korea...

T14 - Warrior opens ruin, finds 'evidence of barbs'. I always wondered what this is. Some bloody skulls and a messy latrine? Scarcher moves W towards Korea and begins to look for any Kims or Lees or Parks that want to volunteer for bumming tending sheep

T15 - Scarcher moves right up to Korea borders, finds 2 workers and an Archer watching over them. City is Capital, which is good news, since the Warriors probably went W with Settler and are looking for other stuff. A steal could very well be on the cards, and we have no better man to attempt it than the one up next.

Take it away, monsieur.

[EDIT: Screenshots show the state of the game right now, and I've indicated possible locations for expos to the N and W.]

So the theme of this game and apparently the map went along with it, is the Welsh alleged fondness for sheep. I like this already

edit: the Korean worker is so gone the next turn lulz

I lived in Wales for 4 years and they (meaning all but one of the people I came into contact with) made no bones about hiding the fact that they hated me purely because, according to them, I 'was' English. So I don't feel guilty making jokes about them or their horrorshow of a language.

Back on topic, red or blue (or something else) for a Western expo? Red gives more farmland but loses the culture and production of the pasture and means we can't work the salt straight away.

I vote blue.

Though I'd definitely want to forward settle Korea and steal the more awesome location. He'll probably beat us to it unless you use your blocking skills

Once at war - assuming Acken DoWs and steals - he would be hesitant about marching a Settler E from his capital. It would be a trifle to steal them anyway. I don't think we have to worry too much about him. It's really good to get him so close so we don't have to worry about launches. He'll make DoF 1-10 turns after Peace Treaty, and if he gets out of control, we can cut him down to size.

It's better to have him as a neighbour than some psycho like Oda or Monty.

It's just that I like that location more, is all :)

(geez, you finish one Huns map in a bloodshed and now everyone thinks you're out to burn everything  )

I like blue as well.

The orange northern location seems a bit far away from the capitol. I typically haven't settled that far away. Once again I'm open to learning why.

Here is something I have had difficulty with - stealing workers with archers. Whenever I have tried that, the archers shoot the worker instead of capturing the worker.

So far no sign of Monty, Oda, or Attila. *crosses fingers*
