Here follows a bunch of terms commonly used in the Strategy & Tips forums. Not all acronyms but very common terms. There is almost always someone asking what some of these terms mean.
Otherwise I agree with the acronyms listed by Roxtar and LAnkou. I completely disagree with those given by Bushface (I've never seen them used).
I have tried not to list previously mentioned acronyms. I apologize if I repeat what others have already listed.

Wat=Angkor Wat
Chicken Pizza,Chitza,Itza,The Great Chicken=Chichen Itza (Like the swedish saying goes: "A Beloved Child has Many Names")
The Epic=Heroic Epic
Heroic Theater=Globe Theater/Heroic Epic combination
Henge, The Henge=Stonehenge
GL, The Lighthouse=Great Lighthouse (Often called GL if there is no chance of confusion with the Great Library)
UN=The United Nations (doh)
Sankore=The University of Sankore
Taj=The Taj Mahal

Phants=War Elephants (I've never seen them called Jumbo)

(Dangerous Acronyms. I'd recommend a special committee headed by forum members Acidsatyr, DaveMcW and a few others to debate the exact definitions further )
Economic rushes: Whiprush/Poprush/Whip (slavery), Choprush/Chop (forest chopping), Buy/Goldrush (universal suffrage purchase)
Military rushes: Axerush, Cavrush etc. Catrush (catapult rush, often implies a construction beeline as well)
There ought to be no confusion between economic and military rushes.
