Commonly Used Acronyms in the Civ Community

Here follows a bunch of terms commonly used in the Strategy & Tips forums. Not all acronyms but very common terms. There is almost always someone asking what some of these terms mean.

Otherwise I agree with the acronyms listed by Roxtar and LAnkou. I completely disagree with those given by Bushface (I've never seen them used).

I have tried not to list previously mentioned acronyms. I apologize if I repeat what others have already listed.

Wonders:
'Mids=Pyramids
ToA=Temple of Artemis
SoL=Statue of Liberty
Wat=Angkor Wat
Chicken Pizza,Chitza,Itza,The Great Chicken=Chichen Itza (Like the swedish saying goes: "A Beloved Child has Many Names")
The Epic=Heroic Epic
Heroic Theater=Globe Theater/Heroic Epic combination
Henge, The Henge=Stonehenge
GL, The Lighthouse=Great Lighthouse (Often called GL if there is no chance of confusion with the Great Library)

Phants=War Elephants (I've never seen them called Jumbo)
Chokos=Cho-Ko-Nus
Cavs=Cavalry
Gren=Grenadier
Treb=Trebuchet
Cat=Catapult
Prat=Praetorian

All Great People given by their initials, i.e. GA, GS, GP etc.
All units ending in "man" are usually referred to without the "man" part,
e.g. Axes, Swords, Maces, Rifles etc.

Leaders:
Hatty=Hatshepsut (Egypt)
Lizzy,Izzy=Elizabeth (England) (Lizzy preferable)
Vicky=Victoria (England)
Issy=Isabella (Spain)
Monty=Montezuma (Aztec)

General Civ IV Terms:
FE=Farm Economy
SE=Specialist Economy
CE=Cottage Economy
HE=Hammer Economy (Debatable. Implies winning by production advantage rather than specialist/commerce advantage)
(Dangerous Acronyms. I'd recommend a special committee headed by forum members Acidsatyr, DaveMcW and a few others to debate the exact definitions further :) )

Economic rushes: Whiprush/Poprush/Whip (slavery), Choprush/Chop (forest chopping), Buy/Goldrush (universal suffrage purchase)
Military rushes: Axerush, Cavrush etc. Catrush (catapult rush, often implies a construction beeline as well)
There ought to be no confusion between economic and military rushes.

An acronym I have seen lately is REX or REXed. What on earth does it mean?

Rapid EXpansion. It's a sort of catchall term for an early (and rapid) expansion followed by consolidation, either by capturing cities or settling lots. So long as you don't overdo it and are in a position to shore up the economy afterwards, the short-term economic slowdown can be easily made up for in long-term advantage.

BFC = "Big Fat Cross," meaning the 22 squares that a city can work

AYBABTU--we all know what that is, right?

All Your Base Are Belong To Us.

I actually found that off a link from a link of the Civilization III Wikipedia page, and the spelled-out phrase is in the postgame when you lose in CivIII, so it's not as far out as it first appears. I don't think the acronym is nearly as common as the full version in the Civ community, though.

YKWIM - You Know What I Mean. Used when you keep misspelling stuff. The only problem is that it is frequently misspelled.
YGTBKM - You've Got To Be Kidding Me. For times a Warrior defeats your Infantry three times in a row.

OK, now that I've got the funny ones out of the way (some other good ones in there, too, btw, CWFMCTF is :thumbsup: and MIAS,IATAMN is :lol:), I noticed no one has mentioned the acronyms for the popular mods. I'll start out:

RoC = Rhye's of Civilization
RaR = Rise and Rule
DyP = Double your Pleasure
FFH = Fall from Heaven

edit: LAnkou got FFH first on page 2.

CTW = CrossRoads of the World
Def = Defense
