Dutch magazine Kijk - Preview

They should do away with time victories and go into overtime. Give each civ the ball at the 40 yard line and let the drive take its course. After each civ has scored or turned it over, if it's still tied do it again.

ok then. 30 flavors, 18 leaders?

so will we have 30 parameter and each of the 18 leader will have a different strength on these flavors?

like:
cathy: expansion 10, growth 8, military prod7, economy6, etc (30 of these!)
gandhi: growth 10, expansion7, military prod4, gp birth rate6 etc. (30 of these!)

i also heard there will be a +/-2 for these flavors.

Hopefully the parameters will on a civ-by-civ basis, because with some nations their leaders don't represent the nation in it's entirety. (i.e. Gandhi and Napoleon)

There needs to be a nuclear victory. The person who nukes 30 cities (on a huge map) first wins!

But I doubt Firaxis shares my view of fun.

Conquest victory has been made easier, right? We still have 6 victory types, now conquest is easier perhaps domination is out. Perhaps economic victory is in?

@carver, is that a commodore/atari or sth even older? maybe the left side electronic device is the engine? but i think not, it resembles a music/amphi system more, looking at the audio outputs, or are they buttons not cable output ports?
and are the below ones cassette deck?

well, i am 31 and i started gaming with atari.
i think it should be 80s looking at the teenagers' outlook :)

hehe, that was the good 'ol time when hollywood computers never failed at developing self awareness and a generally very destructive personality from a severe short circuit.

In my experience they just brake down beyond repair
u just spoke like some fundamentalist newspaper columnists who mention frp gamers as satanists :)
Its from the movie WarGames which was released in the early 80's ;)
i remember a similar movie but i am not sure if it is this. by the way, the actress still seems bella

anyway, back 2 topic

yes. i was mentioning the civ in fact.
napoleon is mentioned in civ5 as militaristic. well that doesn't fit france much except napoleon era.

Just read the article myself and it contained a section concerning the inner workings of the AI decision making. Without going into any sort of detail it mentioned a large decision tree scheme which the AI uses to determined the overall strategy with the economical and military might right at the top.

Not that this is entirely shocking news, but it is nice to know what the AI apparently values most and one could assume that other matters are important on a smaller scale.

The Dutch popular-scientific magazine (Kijk) had a peek into the kitchen of Firaxis and features a 4-page article on Civilization V in this month's paper edition.
Anybody know what month's issue that was in? and if you find an online version, PLEASE POST A VERSION HERE. thanks!

It's the April issue (2010-04) and there is an on-line summary on their webiste (in Dutch) including one screenshot that I think is a known one.

The summary also describes where Civilization is being made ...
A square building sits miserably in an area of frozen fields and leafless forests [clearly a winter visit]. The industrial city of Baltimore lies twenty minutes further and apart from a few mansions there is no sign of life. Not really an inspirational and cheerful environment to create a completely new virtual world, and yet that is what a team of over a hundred specialists of Firaxis Games have secretly been doing here for years.

We must figure out what building they are hiding in!
