facebook civ alpha

The only saving grace about Civ: Smell Sid's Finger is that Firaxis don't have to program an AI, since it is 100% multiplayer, and this is great news because Firaxis haven't made a decent AI in years. :)

I think you might come to appreciate the Firaxis programmed AI, once you are confronted with the average HI (human intelligence) of a facebook user.

I got a rumory thing that they took those first who had not played Civilization games in the past. Testing whether it'll get approval among casual players...

I'm beginning to think this thing will be a complete disaster regarding gaming in general. I am on Facebook, but these idiotic casual games are a plague that needs to be stopped.

Well, it appears to be official now, the CIV franchise has truly sold its soul to Carlos Slim aka the Devil. And yes, he is the Devil because no one can get that rich running a 'telecom' company in South America!

So morals of the story:

Civ Alpha is NOT for anyone on this forum because we actually like Civ.

Civ Alpha IS for socially-decrepit SheepBook users who need another excuse to get more virtual-friends.

Sid M. has completely sold out for the cash, and the legacy is now defunct.

The Civ franchise name is now mud and you will never see a quality title come from them again.

So despite all the shortfalls of Civ V, enjoy it while you can, because the future is bleak.

It'll be interesting to see what this game ends up looking like. I don't entirely get the passionate hate for facebook and/or its users either. Makes it sound as if you've got a chip on your shoulder for some reason or other.

I'm sure CIv facebook will be a big success for the egomaniac Meier but unfortunately I'll never get to play it because I have no friends and don't use FB

Really no prob, if you have no friends. I still don't have many friends on FB, but it was eg. no prob to recruit ~1600 people in MafiaWars for my mafia (all literal friends I never saw before and'll never see afterwards).
And there are much bigger "friend hogs" then I was. Just imagine a FB-friend as a dummy that plays to your favor in a comp game. :)
This concept could be funny with some games, if the crap (FB) actually worked. But as this is not the case, I finished FB-career about half a year ago.

PS.: I wished to live in a world full of such "egomaniac Meiers", as those seem the only people with the ability not to bore me.

Not excited about this at all. I definitely won't be playing.

However, if this leads to a huge revenue stream for Firaxis and they somehow use it to

make fundamental changes to fix Civilization 5 or make a great Civ VI then I'll be in

favour.

Likely that won't happen though. :(

It's become pretty obvious what needs to be done - the internet must be burned to ground and all gateways salted so it can never grow again.

Just the 'social networking' portion of it. I mean what a cultural hit it would be to lose all that great porn.

There's pr0n on FaceBook?

No, at least not in the usual way. But if you look up some profiles, you'll surely find a girl looking for some guy (or vice versa). That easily can turn to something similar then, opening up the wide field of Email-erotics. :)

PS.: I think Swordspider meant it the other way around like: "No matter, when you take out social networks, but pls don't take our porn."

I misunderstood him, as I thought that by "hit", he meant "hit upwards" i.e. quantum leap improvement. And because such improvement would be achievable by nuking FB from outer space, I thought he put FB = pr0n, because all that pr0n would be lost. OK, you get what I meant, I hope.

And now to my opinion, quite seriously: the Internet is a GOOD THING!!! E-mail, the large amount of information available (in great part through Wikipedia) and.. ok, I don't have a third example, but the two I mentioned make the Internet a fantastic thing for humankind.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true.

Casual gamers are Firaxis' new beloved and target audience. For Civilization 5 as well as the facebook game. It certainly is very plausible.

Facebook games are designed to be hyper-easy, hyper-simple, and to lure people into spending real money for in game advantages. They also operate by encouraging you to rope your friends in, in effect recruiting them into a pursuit designed to make them spend money.

There are a lot of repulsive ingredients mixed into that package, and it looks as if that's the direction that Sid wants to go. People are reacting badly because it will be terrible for the sort of games that we tend to like if he succeeds.

If the facebook game takes off and is a huge success they will never make a single player PC version again. Look at WOW. The last single player warcraft we got was III how many years ago?

Same thing will happen.

Well to be fair, they released Starcraft .. which is basically warcraft in space.. so one univerese went one way and one went another.

I don't use facebook either, that makes you a friend in my facebook book :)

and this is why they wouldnt have accepted a civfanatic team

oh i forgot that you can spend money in these games to make yourself a little more powerful and the such

i really hope we are all wrong and civ world an excellent addition to the franchise ...
Definitely right about the spending money part. I just know it'll be saying, "$.99 to get fishing" or "$39.99 for 10,000 sid berries" Did you see the post about what civ6 is going to look like? Oh my god I am so dreading this game's release.
I too would be really happy if it turns out we're all wrong and civface

Yeah we're going to be spending real money on crap that should be free. "$.99 for the Pyramids".
What will also happen is the production speeds will be extremely slow forcing us out of boredom to spend our money completing things. It will eventually come up to "$99 to win the game"
