Do you have proof that they are testing the product with long time fans then?

Not that I really care that much but it makes the most sense logically to test it on the intended target audience first.

Well, it makes sense to test it on a wide variety. To do otherwise would be to presume long time fans can't be casual fans. Anyway, I'm sure testers have signed an NDA, which might make it problematic for them to publicly say they are a tester (unless Firaxis or 2K says otherwise).

What are you getting at? It's interesting info (if true), but how is it relevant?

As I tried to say I don't want to get into character assassination here. But IF Sid did say to Dan Bunten "No, don't go develop a civilization game." Then went and developed such a game and made a lot of money on it, then it's sort of like saying "don't buy that low stock, it'll go lower," then buying all of the shares yourself, and then watching it rise in price. Reality probably isn't that simple... just a thought.
