So like. It turned 7 a week ago. March 14, 2010, baby. (I am excluding the original Altered Maps discussion and the OT Poster Empires due to their lack of formal title and much of a rules framework)

Let's take a moment to share all our fondest IOT memories with one another.

I personally remember the rather absurd intricacy of the first game's war mechanics. Not only did we need a neutral party to roll dice due to the fact GMs were playing the game as their own nations, but deciding occupied territory by pixel meant hilarity ensued.

Fast forward to IOT IV. That was a game with a great little Cold War going on, eventually turning hot and with so many powers involved that Thorvald had to declare his despising of us all. That was pretty great. Props to Joecoolyo for being a great antagonist in the game. Extra props to my friend Vlad for establishing a furry empire that was promptly absorbed into my own.

Ahhhh, and then there was Aftermath. That was quite a fun, quasi-apocalyptic world. My first and only foray into being a player antagonist. It's an awful shame Sombra de Mar's master plan to cause a nuclear winter did not happen as intended, but alas, always another time! It was still fun to be a furry dictator, though.

Multipolarity remains one of my fonder games to have GMed. After several soft power models being tried by myself, I seemed to have finally found one that did the job it needed to, even if it wasn't 100% faithful to narrative. While broken espionage mechanics galore caused reactions ranging from hilarity to frustration, there were plenty of powerful personalities involved to keep me interested in continuing it. Of all the MP games I GMed, I remember that one the most.

And of course, the honor of having the last game before I went on hiatus for a long time goes to Sonereal's Revolution IOT. It is only fitting it was a game where my usual "get rich while everyone else kills each other" mode of play stayed true. I am only sad that I did not stick around to participate in the sequel.

Ah, but enough of the games, what of the players?

I have known many of you for 7 years now... that's insane, isn't it? And while we may occasionally drive each other bonkers, I cannot help but feel that we have something of a family going on. While many of you have left for new territories, I am glad to see many of you have stuck around. I have seen a considerable number of you change and grow, as you no doubt have seen me do the same. While I have perhaps spent more time than is healthy in this community, I cannot say that I regret it, as there are plenty of fond memories that stick with me.

Here's to another 7 years of IOT.

It feels weird to say I've been on IOT for a third of my life and since I was 11/12, but, well, I was.

In all honesty as much as I get angsty and uppity on chat at times you guys are like a second family to me and I've met some of my best friends through IOT. Don't know where I'd be without you guys.

In the name of Saber, has it been seven years? Somehow that feels like longer than I expected and less than I expected at the same time.

My favourite experience of IOT has to have been hosting IdIOT. Although mechanically it was a complete mess, the player's made it into an awesome experience. Your dank memeing and hot funposting made the game a truly impactful and hilarious experience for me and hopefully other players. I still notice that Kinich-Ahau has the Goomy Flag as his avatar and #JustGoomyThings as his user title, which pleases me every time I see it.

I will aways remember the fateful day when my allies invaded me... In what game you ask? Too many.

Also the memes. Tyo's Fire Wizards, ceasar's Argentina, Dhoomstriker's march from the Sahara to Lisbon through the Caucasus, Black Hole, nuclear Poland, Sonereal's The Art of the Spreadsheet...

Good times were had, good people were met, and still going strong.

I've only been on for less than a year but it's been pretty cool. I found a very welcoming but also airtight community of people who share a very, VERY niche interest with me-- namely, pretending you're a country and filling in provinces on a map.

The first IOT I was part of that finished was Heirs to Heaven, and I was pretty quickly swept over by somebody. This was the same turn they had asked for 50 EP as basically reparations. I learned a valuable lesson about these games then.

Since then I've been a part of mostly Shadow of the Fall and RotAE, both super fun. I've learned I like to play as theocracies even though my assumption was I'd always want to be Communists in the homeland.

All around it's a pretty fun place and I've enjoyed my short tenure here so far!

I'm not as senior as some of the players here but I have fond memories of all the players here and every game I've played (though some of those fond memories are of mechanical hilarity rather than robustness of gameplay). I hope that IOT and IOters will continue to be a part of my life.

These have been joys, from the start when I was the French Commune/Socialist Union of Democratic States in IOT9 to the joys of making the Isle of Man into a empire to Fallen Star and other ventures... this been a joy indeed!

I look forward to the next games!

Happy Birthday IOT! [party]:bday:[party]:bday:[party]:band::band::banana::banana::rockon::rockon:

My fondest moments in IOT are:

  • IOT 7, being my first IOT and because of Mainland Japan.
  • MP1, due to China Six and the fun I had warring across Asia.
  • Kashmir, because it was an excellent game.
  • IOT14, because of how fun warring against the UN was.
  • Blackened Skies, because of how pure evil Russia was.

Regarding the players, the community is great and mostly friendly. I've met some pretty good people and had some fun time. :)

I second christos, with the addition of almost selling him my entire nuclear stockpile of zero missiles.

Imperium Revisionissimum

I've also only been here for about two years, but it's been fun. Not many other places where people will indulge in my silly little games.

I honestly dont have any fond memories of IOT.

It's eather poking fun at my nation/dragging it through the mud, the infamous screencapings in the old chat, broken/overpowered NPCs, and being back stabbed.

I have been here for only a few months so I don't have any great memories about iot. But happy birthday IOT!
