INCOMING TRANSMISSION:

People of Soldia... The time is now!

---

The floating 'Overseer' made one final act, the destruction of the Alien 'supergun' at D4, which the Red Crusade was evidently trying to activate and use against COBRA. The gun was vaporised by some unknown energy weapon. At the same time, Debris from the 'Dark' craft were also vaporised by smaller flying drones.

There were rumours of strange goings on underground. But on the surface at least, the Aliens departed, leaving no trace. And in the northeast, the Aqua army remained impassive. It seemed that COBRA, SEF, and the Red Crusade factions had been left to play out the final acts of the civil war...

---

Things began with a Red Crusade offensive southwards, from the centre of Soldia towards the airfield at F5. The Reds were nervous, watching their back in expectation of COBRA airborne attacks, but none came. COBRA was pulling back and concentrating elsewhere. This soon became a retreat. The Reds gathered momentum, and with the elite tanks of Matt0088 leading from the front once again, they broke through COBRA lines and captured the ruins at F5. This was made easier by a daring and costly amphibious attack launched by volunteer former-GLA fast attack boats. Simultaneous probing attacks by COBRA towards Red HQ were outflanked and contained, the vital Red city of E2 was held, and now the COBRA capitol at G7 was suddenly under threat, just a bridge length's away from the front.

Meanwhile, COBRA was hitting the SEF with two Mechs and most of its airforce. This time, the much-contested ruins at I3 were bypassed. Elsewhere, SEF forces simply evaporated in the face of combined COBRA firepower. SEF mercenary Gunships (former Space-Pirat) deserted the cause. Troops went into hiding, deep into underground tunnels. The SEF engineer/recovery vehicles managed to salvage some of their hardware and drag it northwards. SEF resistance stiffened near their HQ, in the mountains of G1 and G2. The COBRA Mechs always outpaced their supporting units. TDM:01 'Indomitable' took a pummelling and had to break off the attack for repairs.

The SEF also had a way to strike back at COBRA territory. The G7 capitol was attacked by long-range missiles, causing much panic. Blazing apartment buildings and dead civilians earned some negative publicity for the SEF. But COBRA HQ and the nearby Arms Plant were also attacked, causing some real disruption to the COBRA war effort. The need to find and destroy the SEF missile silos only added to the frustration at the front. SEF troops were fighting fanatically to defend their HQ, even as it was rumoured that DarthNader was leaving Soldia to seek refuge abroad. Hints of a new armed expedition from the Republic of Lenierde kept their hopes alive.

COBRA command had wanted a knock-out blow against the SEF, but many units were tied down elsewhere by the Reds, or in the process of retreating and recovering from earlier maulings. The Red Crusade took the opportunity to straighten and strengthen its front line. Matt0088 led an attack which evicted GCG Commandos and COBRA Troopers from the E6 wasteland in the centre of Soldia- what had once been the Imperial City, later 'rebuilt' by the Aliens before being destroyed again. Ownership of this wasteland was still useful for the propaganda war. COBRA troops were forced to blow the bridge at E7, to prevent the Reds from threatening city E8 and Aqua territory in the northeast.

The Red Crusade seemed stunned by its own success. It was only a few months since they had faced the prospect of utter defeat at the hands of COBRA, Aliens and Orange rebels. The Reds seemed to be awaiting events. The front was mostly quiet, the plains north of SEF HQ left as no-mans-land. Now with west-central Soldia under control, they halted and regrouped, making no effort to strike south and cut off the COBRA units bogged down in SEF territory

It is a matter of debate whether or not such an attack this would have done any good for the Red cause. The SEF was being forced underground, and their missile attacks slowed to a trickle. COBRA's arms industry still had far greater output than anything the Reds could manage. COBRA's plans for an early offensive against the Reds had been wrecked. But, inevitably, reinforcements arrived at the front lines, and their combined arms began pushing forward with irresistible force.

---

SEF HQ was finally overrun by CGC Commandos, after some of the fiercest infantry fighting of the war. Some surviving SEF troops and miscellaneous followers joined up with Reds further north, and despite a conflict of ideologies, they fought to save city E2 and slow COBRA's advance towards Red HQ itself. The Mech TDM:02 'Invictus' briefly came within sight of the Red command tower. Meanwhile the mass of Red armoured units were being drawn into a gruelling battle around the F5 airfield in the centre of Soldia. A CGC-built Mech, CGC:01 'Serenity', made its debut there. The COBRA airforce put Red air defences to the test in the skies overhead. The CGC had also built a wing of Fast Bombers, which accounted for many Red tanks destroyed or damaged, at the cost of several expensive bombers shot down in flames.

It seemed that just one more push was needed to break Red lines, retake F5, capture Red HQ, and finally declare a united Soldian government in alliance with the Aqua faction...

Aqua, though, had other plans. General Vertinari had been conspiring with Red and SEF contacts against COBRA for some time.

The mass of mercenary air transports and strike fighters heading south from Aqua territory was detected early by COBRA radars. There was little doubt that this was a hostile move. But all COBRA combat aircraft were engaged elsewhere. A unit of CGC Guided Launchers stationed in the G7 capitol city was not enough to prevent most of Aqua's air transports from reaching their drop zone, the airfield at H9.

Aqua Commandos dropped in to fight their Snow Brigade counterparts for possession of the airfield. Aqua also had a sinister new kind of battle robot, spider-like in appearance, specially designed for air deployment and urban warfare. The Snow Brigade troops put up a brave fight, and threatened to derail Aqua's plans, but the airfield was captured just in time for a further wave of transports to land, brining in vehicles and heavy weapons. A handful of useful transport helicopters were also captured. COBRA Heavy Fighters finally arrived overhead, but it was too late. General Vertinari and his elite troops were already marching out towards COBRA HQ, facing little resistance at first.

The SEF joined the action and resurfaced, literally, with coordinated drill-tank attacks behind COBRA lines. The most serious breach was at COBRA HQ, where the last surviving Light Tanks and Stormtroopers followed behind the tunnelers. The outer defences were soon overrun. Lord Iggy and his command staff were forced to flee across the wobbly bridge at I5, leaving other senior officers trapped in their command bunkers. Meanwhile, Vertinari's Stormtroopers were already storming through city J7 and were close to linking up with the SEF.

Aqua also launched a ground attack in the north, but this did not go smoothly. A painful number of Aqua heavy tanks were lost in urban fighting at E8, and a unit of COBRA Heavies sacrificed itself to make sure the F8 bridge was blown up.

Volunteer troops rallied to defend the COBRA home territory. Disbelief and panic was soon turned to anger as COBRA propagandists announced the full extend of Aqua's treachery, and Grand Field Marshall Thlayli made a broadcast from TDM:01 'Indomitable' urging his people on to final victory.

Aqua declared that it was acting in the best interests of Soldia. But when the Red Crusade declared the 'United Soldian Alliance' of Red, SEF and Aqua factions, it was ignored by Aqua. And with no sign of DarthNader, the remains of the SEF were splitting into even smaller fractions. Rogue Anarchist and 'Alien' forces were starting to venture out from underground lairs.

Now it seemed like the war would truly go on forever.

---

COBRA's plans for victory were now totally wrecked. With no useable airfield, most of their airforce had to seek refuge across the border in Gondwania. Ground forces were rushed back from the Red front to relieve COBRA HQ and contain the Aqua invasion. The HQ was rescued in some style by the personal intervention of Thlayli in the Indomitable, with a little help from Tuxedohamm's elite CGC troops. The SEF retreated underground once more. Vertinari's men retreated back towards the H9 airfield after blowing up the COBRA Arms Plant at J6.

Meanwhile, Aqua's troops and robots at H9 were reorganised and advancing out in all directions. CGC HQ and nearby cities were already under attack. COBRA had to abort the construction of another Mech, but managed to put together a new unit of Robotanks at CGC HQ, which held back Aqua for a while. Aqua's troops were inexperienced, lacking supply, and surrounded. But they were strangely well coordinated in their efforts. The arrival of strong COBRA reinforcements led by CGC:01 'Serenity' did little to ease the pressure.

In the west, the Red Crusade began rolling again, taking advantage of the weakened COBRA lines. But south of F5, they ran headlong into the Mech TDM:02 'Invictus'. In a famous battle, with minimal support, Invictus held up virtually all the Red armoured forces by itself, before finally succumbing to a hail of fire.

There was more bad news for COBRA as another expedition from Lenierde finally arrived, led by a Mech of Lenierde's own design. This force swept through the south-western borderlands and evicted COBRA troops from the site of SEF HQ. The 'Soldian Democratic Front' was declared and this managed to attract a handful of former-SEF troops and sympathisers.

Things were now getting desperate for COBRA. GCG HQ fell to Aqua after a ferocious battle. Spider-drones overran the port city at G9. Heavy Tanks were landed by transport boat, and although the H9 airfield was later lost, the Aqua invaders regrouped along the coast. Meanwhile the Red Crusade advanced on its ultimate objective, the great capitol at G7, after demolition charges on the G6 bridge inexplicably failed. Drill Tanks acquired from the SEF also provided an alternate avenue of attack. GCG Light Fighters, operating from rough airstrips and roads in some cases, duelled with Red's bombers overhead.

The G7 capitol, the pride of COBRA, became a battleground between the mostly CGC and volunteer garrison, the Red Crusade, and a strange collection of Anarchists and 'Aliens' that some claimed were being led by none other than Xolniu, and was apparently attempting to take the city for itself. There was fighting from the rooftops of skyscrapers to the deepest underground vaults. This city which had survived and even thrived in the face of all kinds of danger was now finally burning and crumbling, like all the others before it.

There was, however, an unexpected opportunity for vengeance. After failing to take COBRA HQ, Vertinari and his elite troops were left isolated by COBRA's swift counter attacks. An attempt to airlift the General to safety had resulted in the last of the captured helicopters being shot down. The Aqua leader was now hunted by Snow Brigade Commandos, two COBRA Mechs, and various strong forces moving up from the south-west.

Somewhere deep in the jungles of I9, with his elite troops fighting to the death all around him, Vertinari was mortally wounded, despite the cybernetic armour suit he was wearing. He was carried away by a few Spider Drones that managed to sneak through the lines. Whether he lived or died is not known. But something happened to the Aqua forces. The secret of Aqua's recent battlefield successes was an AI battle network, one which had been developed from secret Anarchist experiments, apparently some of them using original 'Alien' artefacts...

Safety protocols failed. The AI, acting via cybernetic implants in members of the Aqua hierarchy, was now in control of the Aqua faction. The final chapter of the civil war had begun.

For a while, though, things carried on as before. COBRA fought desperately to retake the south-east with the help of two new Mechs, TDM:03 'Excelsior', and TDM:04 'Echelon' - unofficially known as 'Revenge'. All four surviving Mechs led counter attacks on different fronts.

Aqua-AI forces were pushed into a new pocket at the occupied CGC HQ, which was kept alive by a trickle of supply and reinforcement from air and sea. The nearby port city of G9 was left in ruins after a vicious street battle.

The G7 capitol was briefly, officially, claimed by the Red Crusade, although COBRA loyalists never stopped fighting. Red forces in and around the Capitol were left to fight it out with COBRA. Aqua made no effort to evacuate or reinforce them.

South-east Soldia was now almost devoid of anything of value, although it was still fought over between the new Democratic Front, the Red Crusade which was now styling itself as the 'USA', and stubborn COBRA troops dug into the mountains.

COBRA aircraft were finally allowed to operate out of Gondwania, in response to Lenierde's latest incursion. With the benefit of the most experienced troops and the biggest guns, COBRA retook the sadly ruined city of G7, and looked like retaking all ground they had lost to the Reds and the Democratic Front in the west.

Strange signs then began to appear. Certain COBRA Battle Robots and Robotanks began to behave erratically. Even the Mechs showed some problems. A missile silo built by the Reds, using SEF blueprints, began to fire missiles at the Red Crusade's own cities. All across Soldia - outside of Aqua territory - factories, radar and research stations began reporting strange problems. Forces were given false orders and sent after phantom targets.

Aqua now had the only undamaged territory, and a large advantage in industry. Factories were being optimised under AI control, and devoted to producing new Battle Robots, Spider Drones, and swarms of small drones of various types, some of which were airborne. Human soldiers amongst the Aqua ranks were being rapidly outnumbered. Cybernetic implants were made compulsory for all soldiers and officials.

---

The AI onslaught now began, and no loyalties were shown. Red territory was hit first - airdrops and amphibious landings hit the area in the north around former Orange HQ, then Aqua troops and drones moved straight for Red HQ. By this time, the Red Army had lost half of its tanks in battle with COBRA since the triumphant capture of G7. It was all too much, too fast. The Red Crusade had been at the peak of its strength only a few weeks before. Now Holy Field Marshal Matt0088 gave the order to instigate a carefully prepared backup plan, the 'Great Exodus', a 'temporary' retreat from Soldia. Only a few units managed to escape from the combined attacks of COBRA and the AI.

The Canbrian Commonwealth allowed these Red troops to pass through with all their vehicles and weapons, and even gave them a slice of undeveloped overseas colonial territory to call home. It is understood that the Canbrians hoped to keep Red Crusade under their wing as a means to someday regain influence in Soldia. They were certainly not eager to fight the Aqua-AI forces themselves. Both they and the JTLU had already withdrawn their forces from the 'safe zone' in the far northwest, leaving tens of thousands of refugees to their fate.

Meanwhile, the last SEF Drill Tanks went on a final mission to detonate a nuke underneath Aqua HQ - a nuke they had somehow captured in fighting with Anarchists beneath the streets of G7. But evidently, this mission was unsuccessful. What happened to the drill teams or the nuke is unknown. The theory that a nuclear strike against Aqua HQ could cripple the AI was never put to the test.

The remains of the Anarchists, the new Democratic Front, and other rebels were too scattered to do anything. Now only COBRA stood in the way of the AI advance. It was battered and worn down by months of constant fighting, but it was able to gain new volunteers from foreign countries, and from former enemies within Soldia.

The front line moved quickly through the southwest. Old SEF tunnels were used to launch hit-and-run attacks by elite troops, but COBRA was holding back its best forces in anticipation of airborne or underground attack. The Aqua-AI beachhead over at CGC HQ was finally crushed, but it took COBRA's full effort. AI troops had soon isolated COBRA positions in the southwest mountains.

COBRA prepared to fight on from the southeast corner, fortifying the coasts while preparing a great counter-offensive. While the four surviving Mechs were all being repaired, COBRA scientists worked on ways to disrupt the AI network, and retaliated with their own hacking of the AI command systems. But time was against them. All too soon, the AI was attacking in force.

An AI 'crawling nuke' moving through tunnels towards COBRA HQ was hacked into by Lord Iggy's science team, and was detonated prematurely, sealing up one main avenue of attack. Waves of AI missiles were shot down by a new anti-missile beam system, a project originally set in motion to counter SEF missile attacks. But waves of AI drones came hovering and swimming across the water. Others tried to repair bridges under fire, until the wreckage of drones and bridge pieces was pilling up and creating a causeway for larger AI war machines to cross.

It was a battle fought in the skies, in tunnels, over ground, over water, and in computer networks. Perhaps inevitably, it was a losing battle for COBRA. The AI could be halted in places, but not everywhere. The ruin of G7 was one of the first places to fall. The beachheads expanded rapidly.

It is sometimes said that COBRA's investment in heavy Mechs and Robotanks was a waste of resources. Final combat statistics would seem to prove otherwise. It was perhaps more a case of the rest of the COBRA army crumbling away as a result of constant fighting.

Grand Field Marshall Thlayli was at this point suffering from battle fatigue and the side effects of prolonged Mech piloting, which could well have impaired his judgement. In any case, seeing no other option, COBRA High Command agreed on a final, informally suicidal attack against Aqua core territory, using three Mechs and all of the surviving airforce - anything which could get across the waterways and bypass the encroaching front line. The exact results of the attack are classified. It is known that it lasted days rather than hours, destroyed most of Aqua HQ, diverted much of the AI armada away from COBRA territory, and came close to breaking the AI though electronic warfare. But the Mechs were destroyed, except for CGC:01 'Serenity', which somehow escaped and eventually made it across the border to Gondwania.

COBRA's remaining territory was conquered soon after. Soldia was finally united under the Aqua-AI, which was now calling itself 'The Guardian'. The civil war was finally over.

None of the neighbouring countries wanted to fight against this AI. Greater Gondwania was the most belligerent, but was still recovering after expelling the Lenierde invasion.

COBRA remained alive and well as a pseudo-impendent entity inside Greater Gondwania, with its own military and research bases.

The Red Crusade was re-established on the island of Aragine, part of the Southern Saro Islands, far to the southwest of Soldia, the tribal natives being puzzled by growth of factories and military installations.

The Guardian appeared to be a benevolent ruler of Soldia. The swarms of drones were now tasked with rebuilding cities and restoring the basics of civilian life. Even the former COBRA capitol at G7 was rebuilt, much the way it had been before the fall.

Progress was swift. Barely a year after the cease-fire, and only four years since the original Anarchist revolution, it seemed that life was starting to return to normal. But despite the best efforts to clean things up, reminders were everywhere. Rusting wrecks of vehicles, tanks, and planes littered the countryside. Skeletons in combat armour were routinely stumbled upon. Every day, people were maimed by mines and unexploded shells.

Subversion was everywhere, too. Followers of 'Gods Will' held onto their faith and prayed for the return of the Red Crusade. For some, Matt0088 was now revered as a divine prophet. The Democratic Front, consisting mainly of former SEF fighters, carried out guerrilla attacks against AI targets. COBRA and CGC partisans stalked the southeast wilderness, some enlisting the help of 'tame' Kangaraptors. Even Aqua loyalists took up arms against the AI, sometimes joining forces with Monarchist rebels in the north-east borderlands. There were also sightings of UFO's, and it was said that Anarchists, Aliens and various strange beings were still roaming the underground tunnels.

There were rumours of sinister camps run by the AI, where subversives were 'processed' back into 'productive' citizens. It was also rumoured that people were actually processed for 'spare parts', or used in various sinister experiments. Although cybernetic implants were not forced on the whole population, those who did accept the mark of the AI certainly became higher class citizens, with more rights than others.

Foreign powers grew more nervous as time went by. This AI was surely an atrocity, bound to cause trouble in future, but nobody could quite agree how to stop it. Everyone was fearful of intervening in Soldia, well aware of the various strange powers which had been unleashed there in the past, and which might be stirred up again.

The exiles waited for a chance to return...

Grand Field Marshall Thlayli did not take part in the final COBRA offensive due to 'ill health'. He escaped Soldia along with some elite forces and much of the COBRA high command, and remains in charge of COBRA-in-exile within Greater Gondwania. He now holds a title of Field Marshall within the Greater Gondwanian military. He has also found time to write several books on military theory, tactics, and the proper use of giant robot war machines in modern warfare.

Honorary General Lord Iggy also escaped to Gondwania and was given authority over joint COBRA-Gondwanian research projects. It is rumoured that he is overseeing the design and construction of various secret weapons with the intention of destroying The Guardian in a planned future war to liberate Soldia. He maintains the only surviving original COBRA helicopter gunship for his own personal use.

CGC Field Marshall Tuxedohamm went missing in action during the final battles with the AI. He was badly wounded several times during the war, and it seems unlikely he has survived. But some say he is in hiding with CGC loyalists somewhere inside Soldia.

General MooseWarrior founded the original Green faction. He was killed in an early battle with Aqua forces. A brand of Soldian Ale was named is his honour.

General DarthNader fled Soldia shortly before the fall of the SEF. It is rumoured he is living in the Republic of Lenierde under a new identity, working as a travelling lecturer, and writing books on political theory.

Commander Charles Li, technically the founding father of the Red Crusade, is presumed to have died in an early battle between the Red Crusade and COBRA. But some say he was rescued by the SEF, was restored to life with pioneering medical cybernetics, and now fights for the anti-AI resistance within Soldia, himself being half-machine.

Holy Field Marshall Matt0088, founder of the cult of 'Gods Will' and the greatest hero of the Red Crusade, arguably the greatest commander of the war, considered a master of armoured warfare, survived the Soldian civil wars and travelled with the Great Exodus to the island of Aragine. Following a dispute over some secret weapons program - perhaps an attempt to recreate the 'Alien Supergun' - and an ensuing power struggle, he faced various attempts on his life. He is currently missing, presumed dead or kidnapped by a hostile native tribe.

Commander Qoou, paratrooper and mountaineer, had an eventful tour of combat in northeast Soldia. He then helped train Red recruits in northern Soldia right up until the final AI attack. He is presumed to have died in battle against AI forces somewhere near Orange HQ.

Holy Admiral TerrisH survived the sinking of Red's one and only heavy warship. His Special Naval Infantry Brigade then saw action against Alien and COBRA forces. He fought in the same sector as Qoou during the rise of the AI. He survived, and journeyed overseas with the Great Exodus, but later returned to settle in the countryside of the Canbrian Commonwealth where he is now semi-retired, living a life of rest and contemplation. He has written several adventure books for children.

Commander Bestshot9 was joint founder of the Aqua faction alongside the mysterious General Sogdian. It is understood that he was ultimately killed in an explosion in an underground research facility, perhaps a deliberate act to avoid capture by Vertinari's loyalist forces. He is remembered as a martyr and a symbol of resistance to oppression.

Neverwonagame3, more commonly known as General Sogdian, appears at various points in the civil war and is linked to various conspiracy theories. Although co-founder of the Aqua faction, he is known to have led the Deep Blue splinter faction at one time. His true motives are unknown. The last confirmed sighting of him is during the downfall of Deep Blue faction and the first emergence of the Aliens as a serious threat. Some claim he is now a special intelligence operative under AI control.

General Vertinari joined the Aqua cause half way through the civil war. Beginning as a simple Commando captain, he rose to become supreme leader of the Aqua faction with support of COBRA, the greatest rise of any commander in the war, only to ultimately betray COBRA in the events leading to the rise of the AI. After being severely wounded in battle with COBRA, his fate is unclear. Some say he is still half-alive, preserved deep within the inner sanctum of Aqua HQ, with his brain still forming part of the workings of The Guardian.

General Popcornlord founded and led the Orange faction. He fought stubbornly against the Red Crusade for much of the war. He finally fled Soldia via submarine, leaving many of his followers behind. After renouncing war and violence he is now a travelling musician, promoting traditional Soldian music and culture in foreign lands.

Field Marshal Alexander, also known as Alex994, led a reasonably successful expedition from the neighbouring Republic of Lenierde in the support of the SEF and the democratic cause. He was not involved in the second, later expedition during the last days of the war. By that time he was helping to force a peace with Gondwania on terms marginally beneficial to Lenierde. He is now a Field Marshal in the Lenierde military and has written popular memoirs of his time in Soldia.

Lord Joakim founded and briefly led the Snow Brigade, another semi-independent army within COBRA. He pioneered superior infantry gear and training, which was becoming standard for all COBRA troops by the end of the war. He safely returned to his aristocratic family home in Gondwania and is now helping to re-train and re-equip the most elite Gondwanian troops.

-END-

Final Status Report:

The NAO-Penguin coalition experiment deemed 'COBRA' has provided several important conclusions on multiverse interventionism doctrine. (MID) Ground efforts for securing Soldia as an intraspatial jump platform were ultimately deemed unfeasible due to local (galactic) elements preventing full deployment of Orbital Command systems.

Iggy-ist penguins, while technologically skilled and brave fighters, have little mind for long-term strategy. We shall consider further cooperation on a contract basis. The personages of 'Thlayli' and 'Lord Iggy' have since been extracted from Gondwania and replaced with body doubles. Gondwanian citizens show excellent possibilities for recruitment into NAO at a later date.

COBRA can be considered a Soldian paramilitary feeder group for continued operations in this and other universes for the forseeable future. As a coda to full involvement in this theatre, continued parallelism has indicated that the NEB and ZPNES universes are approaching type 2 synchronization, as evidenced by recent penguin teleportation experiments.

The true reasons for our involvement here, namely monitoring the continued imprisonment of von Dunkelheit in the Way-pocket established shortly after the main freeze of NES2 V, will remain classified.

On the orders of Orbital Command, the NEB1 record is being closed and sealed. All official involvement is hereby terminated until further notice.

-Adjutant General to the Orbital Commander.

Aristocrats? In Gondwania? :p

I must say the ending was certainly climatic. Cheers! :D

Bravo Daft! Bravo! Great way to end it, even though I technically was the first remaining faction to lose. One question though, was E2 ever retaken? If so, then YES! My overall goal for NEB1 is(was) complete!:)

Very good storyline, especially the Aqua AI, I was completely unexpecting that, considering I had stripped the defenses at B4 and C4 to 2 militia and a trooper. How long were you planning this AI thing, Vertinari?

Story to come.

Wow! The AI kinda ran away a bit there Daft. I mean Vertinari was the overall controller but his AI must have been insanely powerful to de-active all the other Commanders safety features. I will confirm that Vertinari is the core of the Guardian and the fate of dissident leaders is to be integrated into the Guardian. The reason for this is that the Guardian It should be noted that the AI implants cannot, under normal circumstances, take control of their host. The Guardian can use them to track the position of the host and read the host's mind but the Guardian can only de-active the implants. I will write a proper story in a bit.

@ Matt: I have been searching through the Quarantine Zone for ages and started development on the last turn. Really the rise of the AI is the fault of the other factions. I knew you had not sent independent observers so I decided to take the lead by developing various technologies found in the Zone.

Quarantine Zone? Do you mean B10, B9, and C9? Well, I'm surprised the good aliens never decided to blow it up since it was Alien related. Anyways, I never had the resources to do that, plus it was really to far away, and I assumed the SEF knew about whatever was going there, and that there was only three pylons. Actually, I did have troops on the Quarantine Zone, damnit! Daft, would have the Crismon Ghost units known about this?

It's going to be fun retaken Soldia in NEB3, EMP bomb is go!

Except for the part where Soldia isn't the main theater of battle in NEB2, or NEB3 for that matter. And the part where Daft isn't going to mod another NEB for a while, because of DaftNES. :p

It doesn't matter whether or not it will be the main theater of battle. What matters is that it will be part of NEB3, which means that I can retake it then.:p
Go DaftNES!:)

I know that you're out there... it's only a matter of time.

While drones search over the ruins of former Red HQ, a passed over radio flickers to life, receiving a faint message:

Hmm...that seems short, but there isn't anything esle to really say other saying stuff that gives away my future plans.:(

Thankyou :D

I should say the whole rampaging AI thing was not in Vertinari118's orders. He invested quite a bit of moneys, but it wasn't supposed to be more than a bonus in combat. The rest was my doing.

Umm, redundant aristocrats? See they have to fight hard in the military to prove their loyalty to the socialist regime :)

I meant to say, your guys retook that city straight away. I guess it was only lost again at the very end.

PS:

I've attached a ZIP with 5 rough maps in it, in case anyone wants a look. I ended up doing these while I was working out the course of events. It might show more of what was happening. It doesn't go right through to the war with the AI, though.

Awesome, now I can do a complete animated map for NEB1, well up to the AI, like Daft said.:)
Also, about 2 hours after I posted my question to Vert, I realized that it was Daft, who in his usually quest for fairness, made it it fair by not letting anyone truly win. Certainly made the storyline good.

Deep within heavy jungle, a strange noise is heard. Birds which are starting to repopulate this part of Soldia, take flight, escaping the on-coming noise.

A kangaraptor jumped over a group of shrubs and pauses within the clearing. Sitting on a specially made saddle is a man wearing what to the trained eye is a old CGC uniform. It was heavily ripped. The rider's arm was in a sling and a bandage covered most of his head. Strapped to his back was a long slender rifle, a CGC-R450 Sniper.

"It is clear!" Shouts the man behind him, "Just three more miles to the airfield. A supply plane lands there in an hour. We'll blow the blasted spiders guarding it and take the ammo."

Two more kangaraptors entered the clearing with riders. "Aye, Field Marshall Tuxedohamm!"

The three dove back into the brush continuing on their way.

*mutter mutter*
I should have never activated the divice. It wasn't worth the price in the end. the CPM's effects, in the end, did little to help the Crusades cause. oh, sure, the AI knows what I know, that it helped me re-make the world after I detonated it. but give me credit for it? nope, not going to happen, especially since only myself, and it's robotic army remember what happened, or the fact that it has another CPM built around it's primary core. but still. still, Sodia's better for it now, even if I don't trust the B******s programing now. it's peaceful, and mostly fair, something not achieved when it was lead by humans.

Still, as long as I keep my mouth shut and don't tell you peons how it built it's robotic army so fast, it sends me a small subsidiary out of sentimental reasons, and helps me kill anyone I accidentally blurt this out to while I am drunk.

Why yes, that would include you. no hard feelings, were just having some fun on this road trip. and your funneling a little to much funds back to the red cell in Sodia.

you didn't think I knew about that? I am the holy admiral, they always keep me in the loop for old time sake, even if I seem some what senial in my old age. *squich* nothing personal though. B.O.B, take me home please, I really need a shower. and some paper, I feel inspiration coming on.

Sorry to bring this out of storage, but reading through the last 5 turns or so, I wanted to address one last thing, regarding the Aliens, specifically the events between turn 17-18. When Daft said how close the Red Crusade got to joining the aliens, he meant very very close, as in I sent a official PM telling him that the Red Crusade was to join the Aliens immediately. If only I didn't send a PM later that day screaming,"WAIT!!!". If only....:)
