Our World: Civilizations of the Modern Age Design Discussion

Hello! I have quick question on PRC's Red Guards. Are the extra units supposed to spawn when I finish a Social Policy Tree or whenever I enact a social policy? Because different places say different things. Thanks!

It's any policy, although openers don't count, and it seems to happen only happen once per turn even if you enact multiple policies.

Yes, it counts tenets since they are internally stored as policies, and I didn't bother to make the distinction while coding the Lua (I may have discussed this with SuperWaffle, I don't quite remember).

New Red Guards spawning "only once per turn" was something SuperWaffle and I discussed as a balancing factor - for example, you could get a big army really quickly if it counted each free tenet you got for adopting an ideology first.

Shouldn't it also count for openers? I mean the aren't really different from other policies, so it would make sense I think.

I just realized something about Kenya's music: It's a mainly Christian country. Swahili is an official language. I guess you already know where I'm trying to get, right?

Peace

and
War (I think this version earn it's place as a war music after 1:40)

Right?

AFAIK, King William I's Bantu already use a version of Baba Yetu as Peace and War theme. But I think as Bantu represent a group of people who predate the birth of Jesus Christ while Kenya have 82.5% Christian. I think we can usurp share it

That feel when Hatsune Miku has had Baba Yetu as her theme song for years and nobody ever noticed.

Yeah but that's a weird electronica version "sung" by the leader herself. also nobody cares about fictional civs anyway

Bu-but Baba Yetu is sacred within the civ community. Giving it to a civ seems so... violating. Plus, I think it's too iconic to be added without being distracting.

Well, the more fitting civ to give Baba Yetu as far as I think of is in this order.

This Civ < Swahili-speaking Christian Theocracy < Sid Meier civ < Soren Johnson (Civ 4 producer) civ < Soweto Choir civ (lol) < Christopher Tin civ.

It is as fitting as Iceland and Banner Saga soundtrack if you ask me. Now pardon me while I go back to Banner Saga where I tried for sixth time to defend that damn bridge, and figure out how to use lightning.

INB4 The World According to Modders.

I actually see a fairly good chance of us seeing an Uganda or at least Buganda civ within this year, it tends to be mentioned often when requesting African civs.

I'm with JFD on this one. Awesome music, but really distinctive. It's the Civilization theme if there ever was one. It fits the country, but given it's unique nature, I think alternatives should be sought out.

Hint: Keep defending, and use lightning when enemy units are in diagonals.

May I just say that I'm surprised no one's made a Banner Saga civ yet for the Varl or Dredge. All the art assets needed can be taken from the game, and music for both can be grabbed from the soundtrack (Tho JFD has some of the best one's in CD Soundtrack). I'd do it myself if I knew how to code a Civ and I finished my current fantasy civ.

Speaking of Kenya, I think their design could use a buff since their UA only has one effect, their UU seems kind of situational, and their UB's specialist only provides bonuses for Natural Wonders. I think if the unique specialist provided Tourism or Culture from animal resources as well as NWs that would be a good start.

Uganda would also be fitting for it, but good luck trying to find anyone interested in an Uganda civ.
Also, I'm surprised no one's done an OP Sid Meier joke civ.

Well, if I do end up making a Katanga civ after releasing my Biafra civ, updating Rhodesia, and Gatoutak releases Zaire, the logical progression would be making a Ugandan civ. If you're talking about African dictators and powerful African militaries, you really can't ignore Uganda. It's the only country that still gets its way by being a military hegemony.

And I remember Firaxis led by Sid Meier was one of the civs in The World According to Modders.

This. I think it's distracting, plus it doesn't sound like civ leader music. Finally, we can definitely find something that better represents Kenya.

Also yeah Uighur, we can do those buffs.
