Hey all,

So I'm dog sitting at a place with no home Internet (barbaric, right?) and I lugged my tower along for something to do over the next few weeks. Steam in offline mode was going just fine until one day some games just wouldn't run. Civ 5's DirectX menu popped up but the game won't start. Just closes out. And sometimes I get a "Completing Installation" notice that doesn't go past 2%. Launching the game's executable from its local folder doesn't work either. Also restarted comp. Can't change/disable auto-update feature for games. The drop down menu seems locked right now.

Considering this simultaneously happened with Civ 5, Civ:BERT, and X-Com EW, I'm thinking it has to do with Steam not being able to verify the game legitimacy without Internet. What do you all think? Is there anything else I should try?

Also, is there a way around the need to connect to internet every so often due to DRM (I think that's how it works. I'm no expert on game engineering)?
