Realpolitik of the Smoky Skies - The Reboot

In recent years the nation has had its very foundations shaken by change. Female Senators. Luddite aliens. The National Railway. The Dawn Coalition stands for what Pulias stands for! Progress. Without it we are nothing but Luddite savages, but too much unfettered change and we lose sight of what made this nation great in the first place.

The Dawn stands for illuminating the path,so that the Pulian people can progress without fear. Headed by myself, Henry Absoluti and containing all members of the Pulian Imperial Party and the newly formed Nationalist Democratic Party, the Dawn will lead the Pulian people into an era of progress, might and prosperity.

Long live the Emperor! Long live Pulias!

I confirm this.

So Henry is leader of both the Pulian Imperial Party and the Dawn Coalition?

I thought Henry was upset with Harland's death. :p

Either he's wasn't, or he's forgiven quickly, or he's bought into the lies about socialists murdering him for some reason (despite "socialists" being many of those invited to his funeral).

Also, as far as election results go (thinking the next ones in 1842), do you want the Dawn Coalition listed under the one banner in the results, or do you want to be listed as separate parties?

*scratches his neck*

I could probably find a way to incorporate both, but I'll have to think about it. Guess I'm lucky I have ten years up my sleeve.

Edit: Also, I know 'ND' is the shorthand for the new party, but is there any objection to listing it as 'NDP' in the election results? All the other parties I've got three-lettered abbreviations so I was hoping to keep them all uniform. Don't have to, though, I suppose. :p

OOC: One banner.

The Dawn Coalition - Article by Alexander Mac Arthur:
Spoiler :
The Socialists are afraid of the Dawn Coalition. And they are right to do so. For their monopoly on power will come to an end soon. The right wing was divided before and the left united. This allowed the Socialists to win one election after the other. Now that all of the right wing, from far-right to center-right, is united in a coalition, we can fight the socialists on more fair terms and we can gather all right wing voters. The Dawn is also open to former socialist voters who have been disappointed. All in all, the new coalition marks a new age in Pulian politics.

I almost forgot about it but here are the PPP stances on those policy questions cpm asked for a few days ago.

Pulias People's Party
1) Economic Policy: Planned Economy

2) Trade Policy: Protectionism

3) Religious Policy: Secularised

4) Citizenship Policy: Full Citizenship

5) War Policy: Anti Military

Since I'm to lazy to dig through the thread to find it, could someone tell my the laws regarding who the PM could appoint to cabinet?

I don't believe that there are any. Despite protests from the opposition when it was done, we had a Minister from outside the Senate at one point.

The Prime Minister may appoint anyone he or she wishes to be a minister in his or her Cabinet.

In practice this is usually a member of the Prime Minister's party or coalition, and is usually a Senator.

Inauguration of the Fourth Senate

The Fourth Pulian Senate is hereby sworn in. It will consist initially of the following members:

Representing Pulias City, the Hon. Ernest Bernard (PAU) and Aurora Gurra (PPP). The seat that was to be held by Dot Eitus is declared vacant due to his unexplained* absence and will be filled by appointment of the Emperor, on the advice of the Senate. Conducting a third run-off election is deemed too costly and time-consuming by the Electoral Commission.

Representing Coventry, Percy Huggins (PPP) and David Richterson (Ind.)

Representing Haven of Peace, the Hon. Heerlo (PAU) and the Hon. William Melda (PPP)

The first order of business set before the Senate is to determine who shall fill the vacant seat in the capital.

*Unexplained?
Spoiler :

I think if we should select someone who has been shown to be supported by a large fraction of the population already. I vote for megame.

((Aren't we all left wing? For the general time "setting" and with the NDP revised platform we are all liberal, the socialists only egregiously so.:) ))

From this day the forward the official doctrines of the Dawn Coalition will be codified so that any who wish can easily find them.

Coalition Doctrines:

  1. Economic Policy: State Capitalism
  2. Immigration Policy: Limited Citizenship
  3. Trade Policy: Free Trade
  4. Religious Policy: Pluralism
  5. Military Policy: Pro-Military

I think if we should select someone who has been shown to be supported by a large fraction of the population already. I vote for megame.

I second this proposal. In the run-off elections Megame had 3,5 votes (18,4% of total national run-off votes) while Absoluti and Bazil had 2,5 votes (13,2%) and 1 vote (5,3%) respectively.

Edit: OOC: This is a good as time as any to say that I will be going out of town tomorrow and be away for pretty much the rest of the week, so I will be a little inactive.

If selections are occurring I would like to drop out of any consideration.

We currently have three votes for Megame to take up the vacant seat, so I suppose that we'll see this finalized as soon as a fourth logs on.

I am personally in favor of elections, but Miss Megame would indeed prove to be a useful Senator.

For the last six weeks or so we've been in "December 1832" (because the in-game map is up to 1833). I suggest that the swearing in of the Senate has now occurred at the beginning of January 1833, bringing us into line with the in-game situation.
