Realpolitik of the Smoky Skies - The Reboot

If the Dawn Coalition believed the seat shouldn't have been taken up by Sofia Megame, then perhaps your candidates from the Pulian Imperial Party shouldn't have backed out when the Emperor requested one of the three non-elected Senatorial candidates to fill the vacancy.

Also, remember that no Senate can pass constitutional amendments alone. All constitutional matters passed in Senate go to a popular referendum according to the Pulian Constitution.

The Nationalist Democratic Party does not recognize Ms. Megame as a legal senator due to the undemocratic nature of her appointment. As such, ND refuses to recognize the legality of the senate and the laws that pass through the current senate. Also, if ND ever becomes governments, it will not recognize any of the laws passed during this term as legal or binding.

EDIT: I was a candidate too and the Emperor could have appointed me as Senator. So, invalid argument. Not to say that the senators should be elected by the people as they should represent the people and not be appointed by the Emperor.

Actually, no, Christos von Bismarck. You were not a candidate in the 1832 elections. Your party was formed after elections in Pulias City were already over, and run-off elections were ongoing in the cities of Coventry and Haven of Peace to break a tie.
EDIT: At best you have announced your candidacy for the 1842 elections a decade in advance.

((I knew a gurra ministry was inevitable when I saw the first vote cast.))

This is a coup! - Article by Arthur Holms, independent journalist

Spoiler :
I believe that no one can disagree with the fact that the senatorial appointment of Ms. Megame is a coup. Not a military one, of course, but a political one. A coup that changed the will people of the people so as to suit the will of the government. They replaced the only non socialist senator with a socialist one. And they did this not through free and fair elections, but through an undemocratic appointment. Now, if this is not a coup, I do not know what it is. Everyone can see that the senatorial appointment of Ms. Megame is just a bribe to get her to support the government. If Ms. Megame has any respect to our democratic institutions, I call her to resign immediately and win back her seat through free and fair elections. If the people do elect her, I am sure that all parties, including ND, will respect the decision of the people.

This is the first time someone's not killing their character off for purely roleplay reasons, but I'd be okay with it (in other words, go ahead and do it unless someone raises an objection). You'll lose all funds, of course, but I don't think you have any anyway.

Movement of Democrat Socialists

We are a Movement of the workers, the educated, the soldiers and the farmers. We are Democrats for we believe that the will of the people should guide the nation. We are Socialists. We are the Movement of Democrat Socialists (MDS)

We believe:
  1. That all people are equal and should have the same rights.
  2. That all major issues of governance should be put on referendums. The referendums should not be held on rare occasions but on as many issues as possible.
  3. That the state should control the crucial industries while also encouraging the private sector to make investments. We believe in mixed economy.
  4. That there should accountability by the government and that the costs of all state projects should be published on all newspapers.
  5. That a lower house, House of Opposition, should be formed. It should consist of all candidates who gained more than 2% of the votes by failed to get elected. It will not have any powers, but it will allow all parties, even minor ones, to be represented thus ensuring the plurality of viewpoints.
  6. That the deficit should become a surplus by increasing the taxation of the rich, cutting wages of high officials and by halting some of the most costly projects.
  7. That migrants should get limited citizenship upon entering our nation and their children full citizenship.
  8. That we should build up our military forces but use them for defense only. Wars only serve the rich.
  9. That we should promote Pulian culture abroad.

OOC: Seriously, Christos? Holding a would-be fire-and-brimstone speech, and then killing off your character when you realize that you're never going to be in any position of power, I can take. However, when your party program is nothing but flavor and/or things that will make the game take longer time, I get annoyed. Yes, flavor has come to fill much in the game, but real politics is still about what you want to do *in the game*, rather than being a populist and saying that the rich should pay more taxes, which would do nothing in-game.

OOC: All politicians are populists, right? :D Do not worry, I want to enter in a coalition with you and PPP (send VM to Gurra), so I will not "steal" your voters.

OOC: It is futile to not be a socialist. For even if the people elect us as senators, there need to be seven senators and only 2 of the players (us) are (were) non socialists. The rest players are either socialists or socialist leaning. So, even if we get more votes than them, we cannot have a majority in senate and so we either work with them (something impossible due to having different political policies on many matters) or do not form a government ever. Frankly, due to pure mathematics, even if I wanted to continue being a non-socialist, I cannot because I would never ever form a government.

OOC: It is rather futile to be a socialist as well, to be honest. Unless you can overthrow the PAU-PPP majority by being better at the politics that we've done the past three decades, you won't get into power that way. We were perfectly able to form a government without the independents, but chose not to do so out of respect for them. Unless we like you (hint: we don't, as we're getting reeeal tired of your ), the same probably won't happen with you.

OOC: Challenge accepted. :D :goodjob:

I am not one to give up easily. I will get in the government sooner or later, one way or another. I can be as populist as possible and make as many u turns as possible in order to take power and use any means imaginable. But I will succeed in my goal. :king:

With the dissolution of the NDP and the Dawn Coalition, The Pulian Imperial Party has taken on the mantle and rechristened itself as the Dawn Party. The party platform has remained unchanged and Henry Absoluti is the sole party leader.

These comments are accurate.

OOC: Is it possible to kill off my current character, dissolve my party and join as a new character/party?

Might be wise, given that for all the upheaval caused your character only really trucks well with 2 POPs (out of 22!).

((Rest in pieces dawn coalition. I might kill of the Absolutis.))

Not sure why you would need to do that, but far be it for me to tell you what not to do with your character/s. ;)

The Absoluti name was pretty much all the Dawn Coalition had going for it!

OOC: Challenge accepted. :D :goodjob:

Do you not think the POPs might get onto you and not trust you if you duck and weave too much? ;)

I congratulate the leader of the Dawn Party for adopting a name more appropriate for this modern world of a peaceful Europa.
