interesting all that work with diplomacy MPP, ROP, and cities trading
Looks like a big role was played by the decision of the AI to raze cities instead of keeping (esp without culture flip)

I have returned to Civ3 after many years and been playing on Regent. Having read this through I tried again with Spain on standard map and had a great deal more success than previously in particular was able to trash the Greeks late n to secure a coal resource. I lost with VP enabled but will now try with just Spaceship/Domination as Victory conditions. I am hopeful! Thanks
