SGOTM 11 - Psycho Bunnies

Upgrade a bunch of galleons to transports. Load some infantry into an army and drop off.

IT
1530 Plant Googleplex inbetween our new cities. There's a rifle protecting Philly. Hit it with a cav army. Nearly kill the cav army 5/13. Send arty in two directions. One towards Philly and the other towards Nottingham with infantry. We'll need to bombard both cities to take them.

IT Motorized transport comes in.
1535 Set research to flight due in 4 with 54gpt positive cash. Debate on stealing but check in and agree that it's not worth it. Load workers onto our eastern transports and some units are dropped off in France from the west. We have a ROP with them. Change some builds from cavs and infantry to tanks. We'll have a couple finished next turn.

IT Philly runs out a rifle and a guerilla. A 2nd joins them. Trondheim finishes Hoovers.
1540 Hammer Philly and redline the rifles in the city. Do the same to Nottingham which has 3 infantry and 2 guerillas. Our infantry army goes 10/18 taking out two redlined infantry but our Cav army takes out another and a guerilla. One short of eliminating the English. Start some mining operations in cities that can reduce their tank build. Send some transports towards the Americans since I'd have to go through the Scans to get to them by ground. We're at 59% of world area and 64% of pop. Set up a couple temples for land expansion.

IT Oh my. The vikings are building SETI. A german ends up in our territory. The Scandanavians seem to be getting antsy.
1545 Take Nottingham and eliminate the English.

IT Lose Philly to a flip and get disease at Nottingham. Flight comes in and set to Atomic.
1550 Take back Philly. Fortunately we only lose a couple infantry. Bombard Washington and take all 5 redlined rifles. Our cav/knight army does get to 5/19.

1555 Move on Chicago. Bombard 3 invading Germans and get two elite tanks out of it.

IT See some mechs rolling around with the Scandanavians.
1560 Wipe out Chicago and eliminate the Americans.

Bombard some Germans approaching Washington and take a couple out.

IT Nada
1565 Bombard and take out a few German incursions. I'm waiting for some flak to get to the other island before we start in on the other continent.

Summary
I stopped here because I'm not sure how to proceed. My thinking is we'll need plenty of flak if the Scandanavians have mechs. This last phase is going to be painful. I tried getting as much ammo to the other continent as possible. I was using two routes. One from our core through France and the other from our corrupt NW to our beachhead cities. These were massively long turns with the workers and logistics so I couldn't go any longer.

The Save

I have it.

I won't play until tomorrow so everyne can weigh in on how to proceed.

Germany has 27 infantry men. That's it.

We are strong to France (we don't have a spy there yet)

The Vikings have 14 tanks, 5 infantry, 15 TOW infantry and 58 mech infantry. Also eight bombers.

I'm thinking Washington and Chicago will be hard to hold. Maybe we abandon them and consolidate the front before attacking the Vikings.

We are at 60% of the land area.

If there were only some way to break up that unholy mesalliance!!!

But going headlong into the fray by attacking Ragnar is probably the only way. And the narrower a front we have to defend the better.

So, go Bugs, go.

@Bugs, you will have a lot of fun playing with the Realms Beyond gang in the SGOTM. Congrats on drawing that assignment.

Washington and Chicago would be difficult to reinforce since it would require transports. Germany and France shouldn't be a problem but the Scandanavians are a beast. I think adandoning makes sense. You may want to pillage some rails/roads in neutral territory too.

One mm'ing note...Marleyborne and Istanbul could probably use a specialist since they have a big food overrun.

I am so in over my head. These guys are talking strategy 70-100 turns down the road. I'm not even sure what we're doing next turn and why. I just sitting here, taking notes, and every once in a while I ask a clarifying question or make a comment that is ignored.

That is one of the C-iv things that make it so tough for the C3C warhorses. There are so many paths through the forest and things take so much more resources (read turns) to get done that if you don't reach out a long way in your planning you get diverted by all the bijou you can pick up along the way.

The most prolific of the warhorses (no naming any names here) is really really struggling with precisely that.

Same for X-team. 6 different pregame tests, I'm reading and nodding about stuff, but that's about it so far.

The only reason Bugsy isn't as bald as Whomp is that the RB-ers don't fill up their time with pre-testing. I like the X-Team bunch, they are fun to play with but leif's bias toward testing until we all go blind is driving me nuts, or bald.

All I can say is thank the Lord there is a Psi Bunny on X-Team. ;)

Pre-flight – Abandon Chicago. Start figuring out how to get our troops out of Washington. I have to tell you, I hate flak. I have never had a flak unit shoot down an enemy plane. I switch a bunch of them over to tanks.

1570 – We don’t have any airfields. I build one on the new continent and several on ours. We get nine new tanks across via air. Transport a few artillery back out of Washington via transport. Drop off our last units in France. Start shifting the transport navy over to the other ocean.

IBT – The Vikings begin the UN.

1575 – We should be ready to go next turn.

IBT – AT => Electronics

1580 – I steal Ragnar’s war plans for 1688G. We bombard and capture Boston. We turn around and bombard and raze Cherbourg

Since I couldn’t get out of Washington, I pillage everything approaching it. Here is the Viking front:

We’re at 61% landmass. 68% population.

To be continued…

IBT – We lose a cav army outside San Francisco to bombers and tanks.

1585 – Bombard San Francisco with Bombers. Lose two tanks, but capture the city.

Found Was Chicago. The Vikings are now down to two tanks. We finally get an agent in Paris after failed attempts each turn. Joanie has three tanks, 59 infantry, three bombers.

I investigate Trondheim (where the UN is being built) It is due in 16 turns.

IBT – My apologies to all the flak supporters. I just saw my first aircraft shot down. We lose one tank. A weak response overall.

1590 – We start at Frankfurt. Bomb the city and reduce the defenses to two redlined infantrymen.

We can now consolidate this front.

Found New Ulundi and New Bapedi.

At Miami – Bombard the two defenders and take them out with a cav army.

That consolidates our rear. We’re now at 63/69.

To be continued…

IBT – One landing at Philly plus a French and German invasion.

1595 – Artillery hits New York. Attack five times and…

We start marching on Nuremburg. We’ll have to pause a turn on the march on Trondheim while we reposition our bombers.

We’re at 64/70. I think we can roll over Germany and gain most of our remaining 11 percent land.

To be continued…

Will we reach Trondheim before the UN is built or ar we counting on reaching 75% prior to that?

Wow. Great work Bugs. This is going to be a tight one! The Scandanavians have some monster cities to get through but I would think heading straight for Trondheim is a better shot than trying to elimininate all of France and Germany. We could go either way. What do you think?

Low hanging fruit, brother, low hanging fruit.

Low hanging fruit, brother, low hanging fruit.
 Right on. OK go whack those low lying Rieslings and Burgundians, Bugs!

Bugs the only reason I was suggesting flak is I remember Scout saying 2 flak underneath a army nearly guarantees a bomber falling from the sky. Like arty, I think I overdid it but the changes to tanks was good.

OK, if we're going to leave Ragnar to build the UN then we need a tile count and settlers to meet our quota. I don't doubt we can eliminate France and Germany but to do so and settle the needed land in 16 turns?

I'm sure ya'll can make it happen. I would just feel more comfortable w/ the numbers in hand. I'll look at 'em when I get home. No soccer games, shopping, church, Christmas gatherings or anything else on the schedule for this evening so I should be able to take a look.

Note to self, if UN city is sacked, SETI can be switched.

give bugs a couple of cavalry, a few artillery tubes and an army of infantry and he can make the environs of Trondheim look like a swiss cheese. Tough to build glass boxes out of cheese.....

SETI city is next on the list. That is Copenhagen. Plus the AI rarely switch builds.

whomper - you can never have too much arty.

I should get my turns done this evening. None of the three civs have much punch left in them. Nearly everthing they have left is defensive. Ragnar has two big cities tied up with wonder builds. The Germans are gassed, the French and Vikings nearly so. The main push wil continue to be towards the UN build. That can't be built or we will lose. I hope we can get 75% before then.

Man do we have a lot of cities.

IBT – The French drop off a tank and an infantryman next to Kyoto.
Electronics=>Ecology (7 turns)
I think we may want to start stealing techs. I rework our economy into a thieving society.

Our spy in Trondheim is captured.

1600 – Found New Isandhlwana. Since I have our artillery headed in other directions, I attack Nuremburg with just tanks and an infantry army. We retreat a few times and lose a tank, but…

We use our bombers to reduce the four defenders at Avignon and then our tank army does the hard part.

We won’t keep that one. Too much culture. Found New Intombe, New Mpondo and Was Avignon, while abandoning Avignon.

March on Tours, Hamburg and Copenhagen. We’re at 67/72 now.

To be continued…

IBT – We lose an infantryman to a Viking counter attack in one of our front line cities.

1605 – At Hamburg, we lose two elite tanks against redlined infantrymen. :gripe:

At Copenhagen – we lose four tanks and a cav army but finally capture the city.

That was a tough nut to crack.

Bombard Tours. Knock off several defenders and we get this good news:

Once again after selling everything off, it becomes Was Tours.

March on Berlin. Move a tank army to pillage Trondheim. Fail again planting a spy. We do bomb a few tiles in Trondheim.
