Something to consider re new civs

Well, I don't know for a fact I want them. I just said I could see them :p

I don't expect Vietnam, but stranger things have happened.

Also, although it's a stretch, maybe the Apache could be added with Gouyen

Yeah, I don't expect Vietnam either (but being Vietnamese I think it'd be nice that Vietnam - or, heck, more of Southeast Asia or even more of Asia and non-Europe for that matter - gets some recognition), but I suppose if we're talking about female leaders then it has a bit of a chance.

Good thing about this expansion that this is the first time a Civ game has had more than ~32-34 possible civs, so this is a good opportunity for some very non-traditional choices to shine.

I'm all in favour of female leaders, especially if they are handsome to the eye.

Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi (Sri Gitarja) for Majapahit

A Kandake such as Pelekh Candace of Meroe or Amanirenas for Kush/Nubia

Well, we'll definitely get at least one African civ and probably a Native American one, too, partly because of the American scenario and partly because the release if the expansion is "Brave New World." Another Asian civ is also pretty likely, just because it is. I don't expect 6 European civs again, though, so there could be to 3 Asians at this point.

I just hope that if Vietnam is included by miracle, or if it's included in a future iteration of civ, that they don't solely focus on its Cold War history - Vietnam's got a longer history of fighting big evil imperialists. :p

Seriously, though. As long as Ho Chi Minh isn't the leader then it's fine, in my opinion - having Uncle Ho might still be a tad bit controversial among the overseas Vietnamese community (many are still bitter about the communists and would gladly protest), and while that's not as much a controversy as, say, Israel or Tibet would be, it's still something to consider. Not to mention Vietnam's had its fair share of interesting history going way back, and to only represent its history through a few decades in the 20th century would be a waste.

And plus I want to see the Trung sisters. Double headed leaderhead, yes.
that's an understatement if i ever heard one.

They haven't bent the rules like that so far, but I agree with everyone that Queen Nzinga would be the ideal candidate were they to choose to do so. Not only for a strong female leader but because she thematically fits in very well in the scramble for Africa scenario.

BTW, I've been initially hesitant with Vietnam because, if you're returning to Indochina, Khmer is far and away the most logical choice (and Angkor Wat is terrible, so they deserve a good civ instead). However, if there is a solid female leader, it might make sense. In addition, they're another choice that can have Cold War related attributes. I just mentioned in another thread that the decision to include Poland was likely influenced by this theme and Vietnam is one of the few other civs I can think of that aren't already represented and could be included (most other modern civs not yet in are third way type civs like Brazil rather than Cold Warriors).
i'd like to point out that despite the Khmer having Angkor, Vietnam/Hanoi were the capital of Indochina.

Just wanted to say that having Queen Nzinga would be great, I really hope that happens, it seems like the perfect choice...

I know this is stupid but I kind of want Argentina just so Eva Peron could be the leader in the off chances that the leader is styled as Madonna in Evita. I would love to see Madonna in Civ. Maybe as a great musician, though.

For a second I read that you wanted Maradona as a great musician.

Eva Peron would probably be too controversial to be added though

How about Yugoslavia with Milka Planinc as leader? First female leader in the history of socialism

Indochina the region, not Indochina the colony.

I'm definitely feeling a silk road civ. If trade, diplomacy and the new culture offense are the centerpieces of the expansion, then doesn't it make sense to reflect that with new civs? I'm revising my thoughts: Poland, Assyria, Brazil (culture), Zulu (scenario), Kongo (scenario + possible female leader), Khazars/Kushan (trade routes), Majapahit (culture + female leader), Portugal (trade), Sioux/Comanche/etc (US market).

And back to the thread theme: two, maybe three female leaders - Shammuramat (Assyria), Tribhuwana (Majapahit) and maybe Nzinga (Kongo) depending on how liberal they are with the definition of "Kongo."
