UI - Improved City View (Vox Populi with EUI)

I downloaded the folder from civfanatics - now a dumb question, exactly where do i place it? =) never used improved city view before
Like all other manually installed mods: <user>\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS

@Infixo In the 1-14 beta thread you mention that you need to enable the Small UI option to use this mod. How do I enable Small UI? I don't see it listed in any of the tabs in the ingame Options menu and I'm not sure where else to look.

You need to set SmallUIAssets to 1 in UserSettings.ini, which is in <user>\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5. Also, quit and restart the game after that.

Normally I don't care for mod-mods, as I really want to contribute testing pure VP. But this kind of user interface enhancements are really a god-send.

I understand that G doesn't want to add any of this to the main mod, but, could it be possible to make one complete integrated mod-mod with all the 'must have' interface upgrades? You know, this one, improved overviews, enhanced colors, ...

This sounds like a good idea to me!

The problem is that everybody has his/her own opinion on what is a „must have”.
Example. The new ICV has around 60 subs now. I’d say it is far from being a „must have”.

Surely we can agree at a minimum. And it has very few subscribers because it's clumsy to find them in the steam workshop. I tried subscribing there and it didn't work for me (meister v9). Only when you linked the v10 for me I could make it work.
Also, filters to trade routes, wow, I always wanted this without knowing. Those QoL improvements, that don't touch mechanics, I love.
Makes me want to install your other enhanced military overview, even if I don't think I'll ever use it.

I mean, I would install and recommend a pack that improves UI, even if some of its features are not what I'm looking for.

MM version required users to delete some files, that could be troublesome.
MO - you won't see its potential in early game, when you basically know all your units; it's good mid and late game, when you have 50+ units and start looking for them. I created the first version with a single goal - to find a unit with the most XP to upgrade it as the first one.
I also use "UI - Religion Spread" which I had to tweak a little to use with VP. I love the religion map and it tells you number of followers of your religion, so helps with tracking that 20% treshold.

Could you put that modified version up on downloads section?

Well, the minimum list could work. As for now I am always using:
  • UI - Calypso's Colored Religion Icons (Basic) (v 1) original, unchanged
  • UI - Filters in Trade Route Overview (Vox Populi) (v 1)
  • UI - Improved City View (Vox Populi EUI) (v 10)
  • UI - Religion Spread (Vox Populi) (v 1)
  • UI - Show XP in Military Overview (v 2)
  • UI - Small Resource Icons (v 4) original, unchanged but sometimes icons disappear, but the same happens without the mod, so I think it's game issue rather
  • UI - Summary Specialists (v 11) this one doesn't support Diplomats, I am yet to tweak it or even integrate into Top Panel, but it's a nice QoL mod
  • Edit. Forgot about:
    • UI - Destination hex for a unit with a "move to" mission (WHoward)
    • Global - Commander Influence Borders (WHoward)
And those 3 as optional:
  • UI - City Production (v 15)
  • UI - Promotion Tree (v 15) original doesn't work, I am fixing it but not yet done; but it is good for mod development and people not familiar with VP, to learn the promotion trees
  • UI - Wonder Planner (v 14) I've changed how the techs are counted so it loads very quickly now
Out of curiosity, what's on your list?

My list?
FlagPromotions is the only QoL mod I ever used.

I'd say that those that are not fully compatibly stay out of this for the moment.
The first six mods looks like they are really useful. UI-Destination I'm not sure about, current method by Gazebo looks efficient (0.5-1), and I don't know what Commander Influence borders does. Or City Production.
Promotion Tree sounds useful too, I don't think I need it, but it's something newcomers should really appreciate. Wonder Planner, even I may use it.

Dude, you really know what to add to improve game experience! That's why I think putting everything in the same pack makes sense. Ok, most of those mods are whowards, but you are curating them for VP use. I remember to have read a list of those whoward mods, but it is so extensive that I had no idea of what to pick.
I would consider not adding UI mods that are too heavy on the CPU or if they only add a change that doesn't really improve what there is already. Or if it is too difficult for you to make it work and maintaining. (you know how G changes things from one release to the other).

Solid list! I'm using a lot of the same mods. Didn't know about summary specialist, going have to try it out. I use condense promotion since my current rig can't handle flag promotions + high textures + a huge map, but will likely go back to using it. Much needed mod.

That is a very nice compilation of well chosen mods, as you say, QOL. I would say that the longer you use QOL mods, the more they blend in and become integral parts of the original mod.

Must(perhaps not exactly "must") Have Mods For My Daily Enjoyment

UI - Calypso's Colored Reigion Icons (Basic) (v 4);
Diplomacy - Auto-Denounce (v 1); because I'm lazy
Faster Aircraft Animations (v 3); because I use quick movement also
Global - Random City Names (v 1); add some randomness into the mix
Goody Huts - No Auto-Mapping (v 2); because scouts and pathfinders cover ground fast enough, maps are useless to me
InfoAddict (v 22); information overkill? what are your thoughts?
Redesigned Colors and Icons (RCI) (v 4); vanilla does not have enough distinguishing colors for me
UI - City Production (v 15); must have for wide players
UI - City Religions (v 4)
UI - Destination (v 3) (bugfixed by Serp); "move-to" tile is highlighted, much improved over original imho
UI - Filters in Trade Route Overview (Vox Populi) (v 1)
UI - Improved City View (Vox Populi EUI) (v 10)
UI - Overlay City Limits (v 8); strategic view is very handy at times
UI - Religion Spread (v 13)
UI - Show XP in Military Overview (v 2)
UI - Wonder Planner (v 14)
Units - Visible Trade Units (v 1); units I own should always be visible imho
(Z) Change VP Options (v 1); convenience
(8) VP-EE Compatibility (v 5.2); of course!

original, unchanged but sometimes icons disappear, but the same happens without the mod, so I think it's game issue rather

UI - Small Resource Icons (v 4); report submitted recently

(https://github.com/LoneGazebo/Community-Patch-DLL/issues/3891) Gazebo said this is an engine bug because it affects yields also

Incompatible Or Issues Seen When Running Concurrently With Other Mods

UI - Trade Opportunities (v 28); needs to be updated for VP
UI - Great Work Manager (v 13); cause CTD

Frequently Used But Not Every Game

Enhanced Naval Warfare for Vox Populi (v1.4); yay for more ships!
Global - Espionage Reports (v 3); useful but could be a cheat
Quick Turns (v 10)
RemoveBanLuxury (v 1); could be considered game imbalance mod
Wonder Race (v 7); unsure if to call this a cheat
So, I prefer to stick to UI mods and general cosmetic improvements with the largest gameplay changer being EE. Gameplay has been stable with no crashes recently.

It doesn't seem like it's working properly for me, i am using small icons as instructed and a clean latest vp install with a few mods.
Spoiler :

I've fixed UI Upgrade Tree for Vp (and Promo Tree, but I see infixo has already done that one).

I'm also testing a reworked PromoFlags, that uses the EUI UnitFlagManager, doesn't mess with LostOnUpgrade property of the promotions, is less of a performance drag late game, and also improved the clarity of some of the icons.

Not sure of the etiquette on posting updates of other people's mods though, especially if they're not contactable?
If the concensus is that's okay, I'll see about posting them at the weekend.

Always cite the name of the original creator
Always put a link to the original mod (or the thread associated)
Send a MP to their civfanatics profile (do not wait for an answer more than few days)
Do not earn money by any way using their creation (so do not put it on a personal page with advertisements)

I have not fixed Promo Tree entirely, only enabled CombatClass drop-down.
So, if you managed to display a tree for a selected unit, then go for it and post it as well.

So, I prefer to stick to UI mods and general cosmetic improvements with the largest gameplay changer being EE. Gameplay has been stable with no crashes recently. Also I use these options in GraphicSettingsDX9.ini, wine 2.21 +steam w/ Arch Linux, kernel 4.14 so if I do have crashes or glitches, I first have to isolate if the problem is OS related before I report any bugs.
  1. BlockOnLoad = 1
  2. MinimizeGrayTiles = 1
  3. FadeShadows = 1
  4. Terrain64Chunks = 4096
  5. Terrain128Chunks = 4096
  6. Terrain256Chunks = 4096
  7. Terrain512Chunks = 4096
To be honest, I'm not sure if I recognize a difference in setting these to default or not (4096 vs 512)
Isn't this list a bit long for 'must haves'?
