    Deity Difficulty

Part of what is needed to deal with the wonder spamming runaways, judging by my current game, is more aggression. Austria wouldn't be a runaway with 19 wonders if her 2 warmongering authority neighbors had done the authority thing and attacked her effectively in the early game. Only lately (at...

should i be doing something different? [england]

Medic won't actually help with that much. Healing doesn't do anything against one shots, and medic strategies depend on having room in the back for them, which is harder to gain if you're landing as you say. It is still a good idea in general, but if what's killing your troops is amphibian...

    Your favorite starting policy

That's not because authority is OP though. It's because the AI is tremendously more competent in peaceful play than they're at warmongering or defending themselves against warmongerers, and because most of their bonuses translate more directly to peaceful play. Authority is balanced by the fact...

    Sweden

Sweden's big thing in the early game is their UA bonuses. That is, bonus attack on land melee and extra movement on siege, both of which are huge because of how they're quality increases for your entire army from the beginning of the game. The Great General bonus is also great to allow you to...

    Wonder hoarding

Maybe it's that when I go warmonger I always pick civs with very early UU, but killing off a civ very early on tends to be the default for me if terrain allows the offensive.

    Wonder hoarding

The AI could probably do with being taught to be more cautious in that sort of environment, getting more defenses running when faced with aggressive neighbors in close proximity, but fact is as a player you'll almost always win wars and they have no real way around it. They're much better than...

Are City-States more vulnerable on higher difficulties?

In general city states are more vulnerable in higher difficulties, yes. But I find the map to be a more determinant factor on how likely it is that a city state will be taken than the difficulty level. Even in Deity, a well positioned city state can hold out very well against assault, whereas...

    feedback on AI combat behavior

To be fair, if China actually had a wide border with most of your land instead of a few coastal cities, those would be more useful, if there weren't like 10 of them, which is indeed too much. More importantly, she's completely ruining her own attack, simply by not positioning units for a war...

    New Beta Version - September 15th (9-15)

The trick with Lancers is they're not Knights nor are they Landships, they're comparatively fragile. You might be better off keeping highly promoted ones in reserve altogether unless the terrain allows for good disengaging. This is historical and appropriate. Melee cavalry increasingly faded in...

    feedback on AI combat behavior

Wow, that's weird. Can't say I've ever seen this sort of amphibious attempt at all. And I've been in situations where the AI could have actually pulled it off, too. Them launching such an invasion at all could be promising behavior, but they really do need to get escorting right.

    America!

My experience is you're right, except for a few cases where I saw a very early Stonehenge the AI just doesn't rush them, you can always get either one even without any special boosts. Then again, before pyramids was on mining, too many AIs rushing Stonehenge when it was the only wonder...

    On technology brokering

Even my own vassals never sell me techs as warmonger, so really tech trading is only good for the gold. Fact is that if I'm ahead enough to trade like that often I'm probably going to win, since a wide empire with tech parity will crush the smaller empires. As peaceful on the other hand, you're...

    feedback on AI combat behavior

Can confirm, I've taken AI coastal cities by land and seen no naval counter attack. Though then again that particular city never got a dedicated counter attack by land, even when I left it mostly uncovered to go fight elsewhere, so maybe it's a different problem? Songhai (the AI in question...

AIs starting with a free worker - discussion & poll.

Just give them some extra food. Many have mentioned they think the issue is super early farms that AI can get if they have the right terrain, which only some get. So give all the AI some extra food and it should amount to the same, only now all AI get the bonus

    Aztecs

It's fair to point out that's not the whole UA. Faith/Gold gains are fairly immediately useful. Also, you're failing to consider that if you don't want to go full warmonger (which apparently you don't given your concerns about opinion), you don't necessarily need to do that much capturing to...
