I find that understanding the diplomacy system is vital as you go up in difficulty. Most of the suggestion in the OP improve efficiency/effectiveness, which is good. But not that helpful if you get ganged by multiple AI at the same time because you mishandled the diplomacy aspect of the game.
Why are you playing diety?
Judging by your questions, it doesn't sound like you're ready for that difficulty level.
At least try some Immortal games first. There is a distinct jump in difficulty from emperor to immortal to diety.
Sigh. Stuff like catching 'index out of bounds exceptions' is programming basics.
Thanks for the helpful responses.
And thanks for all the great mods...really helpful.
Yes, I know I was being vague. Sorry about that. I was wondering if you guys had figured out some patterns yet. Like mods that change XXX are the likely culprits.
I don't understand the crashes because the mods only impact the game on a superficial level. You'd think Firaxis would have...
Part of the appeal of a sandbox game is that you set the victory conditions, but I understand. It feels different when there are hardcoded victory conditions to aim for.
I can't finish most paradox games because they go on for so long. I usually play for days (probably about as long as a Civ5...
No crashes without mods.
With mods, I'm getting random crashes during gameplay, when I load, when I quit, when I go to main menu, etc.
Do we know the general reasons why mods are causing crashes? Is there something I should avoid?
I've made a few mods myself and I simply don't...
I modded off the sounds for all the animals (and other various unnecessary sounds) that was bothering me so much. So I'm pretty sure this should be moddable too.
But I didn't use the ingame mod system. The changes apply to normal non-modded games too, so it's more like changing a setting...
I did try denouncing, then declaring war in the same turn. It had the same result where I got the negative diplomacy hit with every other civ for attacking a friend. Maybe I need to wait for the other civs to get word of my denouncement? I'll try it later.
I'm definitely trying to figure...
Okay, I reloaded the save to check a few things. I'm not sure yet whether I should continue with the reload or suck it up.
Before my DoW, in the diplomacy popup, she's friendly to me and "We have made a public Declaration of Friendship." I'm assuming she's thinking about the one we made...
Wow, -75% steam sale on CKII. I love Paradox games. Thanks so much for the tip!
As for the topic, I preferred Endless Space. It's a solid space 4x game. I had some complaints about it when I was playing, but I heard that many were fixed in patches.
Fallen Enchantress...It's weird. By its...
I agreed to a declaration of friendship (DoF) with one civ, but she attacked me about 10 turns later. I eventually signed a peace with her and she was immediately friendly to me. No grudge.
Because she attacked me, I assumed that the friendship was over. When I open a dialog with her, I...
I've been playing a new game to see if I can cope with espionage better, now that I'm more familiar with it.
I can deal with tech stealing. For the most part, it's only the losing civilizations who can steal from me, so it's not too bad. The randomness still annoys me, though. I can see...
I finished my game as quickly as possible because wow, I was getting really upset. Sigh.
I figured out why I dislike it so much. It's too random and I don't have enough control.
I usually aim to be the tech leader and/or the one with the most CS allies. So my entire game, I felt like the...
I just bought the expansion and I've been having fun playing an immortal emperor game. Unfortunately, one new 'feature' is pissing me off so much.
Coups of city states.
I'm not 100% sure how they work, but I've lost like a dozen city states allies to these coups. Many, many thousands of gold...
