PolyCast Christmas Special 2010: "Here Comes Civ Clause"

I appreciate you were trying to do something different. Of course, polycast had the excellent Civ5 interview about the same time as episode 100, so I can forgive the chaos of 100.

PolyCast Christmas Special 2010: "Here Comes Civ Clause"

I complained about a previous Christmas special which included too much fluff content for my taste-- so I wanted to say thanks for keeping the crunch in this year's special. Keep up the crunch and minimize the fluff (i.e. no repeat of episode 100) in 2011!

    Worldbreak destroyed palace

I don't have any mods-- FFH2 + patch k. Unfortunately I don't have a save pre and post. I've attached a pre save (at turn 413) and a post auto save (at turn 416). I realize this may be not be what you are looking for... Later replies do seem to suggest this possible.

    Worldbreak destroyed palace

Relative newbie to FFH2. I am playing my third game. Lots of fun and flavor. Thanks to Kael and his team. Question: current game I am playing as the Illians on a map with primarily evil Civs, patch k. Recently, I mysteriously lost my palace. I *think* it was due to the Sheaim Worldbreak spell...

PolyCast Episode 73: "More Tangenty Than Usual"

Enjoyable listen. I wonder if perhaps the Animals topic was dismissed too abruptly. Fall from Heaven has the capture animals mechanic, including buildings that depend on captured animals. Maybe it only works in the Fall from Heaven setting and would not work in another context, but Fall from...

Apolyton CS Transition 2009: Executive Changeover

There aren't too many still independent gaming sites (civfanatics is owned by UGO which is owned by Hearst Corporation, for example). DanQ and his team steered those difficult waters for longer than most and deserve full credit. I am not registered on apolyton, though I do visit from time to...

ModCast/Polycast Special: "Have a Merry Little Humbug"

Polycast always has a mix of fluff (banter between the hosts) and hard content (news/strategy/gameplay discussion), but this special had too much fluff in my opinion. I haven't listened to modcast as regularly as polycast, but my limited exposure to modcast suggested it had a less fluff (though...

    Catching the Runaway AI

In my own recent Monarch game, Darius just won via Cultural Victory. He definitely seems to be a powerhouse AI. He was on the other continent, and when I first made contact, he had both the tech & culture lead. His tech lead was huge, but I was able to slow him down by bribing his neighbor...

    Astronomy obsoletes too much

For those looking for a realism (as opposed to game balance) argument: Monasteries help your civ research things like astrology and calligraphy, which for a time were associated with true scientific advancement. But eventually, research into astrology and calligraphy gains you nothing...

    Apostolic Palace sneaky question

Just finished a game where I was bitten by this. I was just a few votes short of the margin (including votes of my 3 vassals), so I attacked my rival to take a few of his cities. But when the next vote came up, my competition in the vote switched to my vassal, and I failed again to achieve diplo...

What do you think of Galactic Civilizations II?

Galciv2 is a great game. As mentioned, Stardock provides great support in terms of patches. Game runs with no CD required in the drive. You can design your own ships-- both capabilities and appearance. On the otherhand, I'll be honest that I play Civ4 more often than I do GalCiv.

Twilight of the Arnor requires Dark Avatar?

It appears that Stardock's new expansion, Twilight of the Arnor, requires the consumer to buy Dark Avatar first. Isn't this a bit unusual? The other games I am aware with multiple expansions: NWN, Civ3, and Civ4 did not require purchasing the first expansion in order to install the second...

    Does Dark Avatar have editor?

Well I never did pick up Dark Avatar. If the 2nd expansion does deliver on the editor promise, I'd definitely consider buying.

    Does Dark Avatar have editor?

I seem to recall reading a preview some time ago that the Dark Avatar expansion would include a scenario editor. Yet now that it has been released I don't see any reviews commenting on it. Does the expansion include an editor?

    Does anyone else lose interest?

While I admit to abandoning my fair share of games, I think the Civ4 late game is much more competitive than the Civ3 late game. Usually, if I am going for domination, an opponent will emerge who is far from a pushover. For example, in my current game Mansa Musa fought 3 wars with me as an...
