Yes though I have not used "Steam" and have no idea what it is i have had exactly the same problem on XP. I posted a while back and have tried many things but have been unable to solve it. I lent it to a friend to try it out and it did the same! It doesn't make it to the loading XML etc etc bit...

ok i have just tried playing BLACK AND WHITE 2 for the first time and the same thing happens. does this suggest a hardware problem...? possibly optical drive as there are no driver updates for it and its from the original computer (TIME, ME OS) like 2001! so its old. slow. combo drive. 4X speed...

Yes I have just unistalled and deleted EVERYTHING that i could find about it. Defragmented my disk. Did clean up disk, as much as possible. Then did a hard drive check thingy and found no bugs. Then completly reinstalled it through the disk without downloading the patch as that hasn't done...

ok how many civ 4 disks should i have for version 1.0 that i bought almost as soon as it came out. Because i have only one and people are reffering to a disc 2???
