Can't play civ 4

[Big Problem]

Reinstalled the game once more. I have found that all the log.ini files and folders etc are short cuts is this right. I have to search for where the real stuff is.

The 2nd entries are normal. What's that question marked PCI device?
The only thing that "may" help would be newer chipset software, at intel HERE.
Perhaps others will see more.

That questionmark next to PCI device makes me wonder. The PCI slot is the one that your Graphics card should be plugged into. HMMM?
Click on the question mark and see what error code microsft gives you.

my graphics card is a PCI - Express Nvidia 7900 GT, so PCI slot is free apart from a network LAN thingy. which i don't need coz i have WiFi so just stuck it in anyway.

Is there not a shortcut icon on your computer? Have you tried to run it from Start->Programs->firaxis games?

yeeeesssssssss i have tried ever way to run it. I can't access my _Civ4Config shortcut/file. So a peice of help that i found on 2K Games Support i can't do. The turning logging: to 1 from 0.

Done a thorough uninstall and reinstall, clearing cache, registry, etc.?

Yes I have just unistalled and deleted EVERYTHING that i could find about it. Defragmented my disk. Did clean up disk, as much as possible. Then did a hard drive check thingy and found no bugs. Then completly reinstalled it through the disk without downloading the patch as that hasn't done anything before. (deleted the patch earlier too) cache registry i think so. Just searched the disk for "Firaxis" and deleted everything it found.

ok i have just tried playing BLACK AND WHITE 2 for the first time and the same thing happens. does this suggest a hardware problem...? possibly optical drive as there are no driver updates for it and its from the original computer (TIME, ME OS) like 2001! so its old. slow. combo drive. 4X speed DVD reader. problem? if not could it be anything else?

I have the same problem with civ4. After i'm starting it, the loading window flash for a sec then it quits with the same error message(AppName: civilization4.exe AppVer: 1.6.1.1841 ModName: ~df394b.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00077c9c etc...). I have no problem with other games. It seems to a rare problem, im reading forums all day and this is the first topic where others have this problem too.(but without solution:-() Please, someone help!

I'm not sure because I've never had an issue with it, but maybe someone else can confirm/deny if this temp folder is part of the SafeDisc process?
