Not a weird question at all, many of us had the same question when the game first came out.
Currently, the game is only available over the internet and only from a site called Epic Games. Sale price until New Years is $37, returning to the non-sale price of $40 after New Years. Rumor has it...
Two possibilities come to mind. If you had just promoted the unit it needs one turn before it will move. The other possibly is one that I run into often, trying to move a unit that is "asleep" with the little grey circle above it. You need to click the circle before it will move.
Great reply Dale, your experience shows and is really helpful to us lesser skilled mortals. I'd like to add a couple of small tricks I have discovered in a year of "noobie" play, usually at level 3 (Good) against 3 or 4 AI.
I usually play as Rome or Greece. When configuring the game startup, go...
Thanks for the tip. The actual resolution was pretty cool. After about 5 turns of me trying stuff to no avail, some traders from a tribe stopped by to sell me some timber... what a happy coincidence. Though I do suspect the devs had the entire event planned out in advance. Smart guys those devs.
Last night, as Rome, I was having an awesome game. Started on a small continent and by year 43 I pretty much owned it. 8 Cities 3 of which were barbs that my awesome army had cleared and a friendly Civ to my East. Life was looking good ... until all my workers went on strike! I could not build...
Not an earth shaking flaw but it has appeared in my last three games.
In the dialog box concerning the wisdom of hiring a cook for a feast there is reference to your lack of kitchen "cap"i"bility". It should be spelled capability. It's an easy fix and somebody on your team can start their day by...
I can recall a recent game where I cleared a tribal city and was surprised to be rewarded for clearing a "barbarian" camp. It's possible there's certain conditionals that are not yet publicly documented. It would really be good if the Encyclopedia were a bit more fleshed out and updated.
I tend to be an immersive, realism oriented player so Apocalypse and Secret Societies will likely be rare or never choices.
I have been playing a bit of Old World since the early release and initially found the random tech approach that is used to be a bit off-putting. When Civ offered it in...
I don't think the claiming procedures for sites has changed since first release. You can claim a site with any unit, military or scout. My usual approach has been to use the scout to find and "claim" the site but then immediately replace the scout with a military unit until I can get a settler...
As a Civ player since Civ2 I have adjusted to the anachronisms of Teddy Roosevelt warring with Cleopatra and Victoria fighting the Maori. Old World is much more immersive and consequently more enjoyable because it presents a truer historical and geographic setting. I suppose one could add a...
Cautionary note re:my above post ... Do NOT try taking on an Empire. At this point in the game they're much bigger and stronger than you and you'll get your behind kicked royally.
After a dozen games so far (no winners yet but I do have a second place) the approach to the early game seems to be build two or three scouts to explore your immediate neighborhood 20 hexes in all directions. You likely will find 1 or 2 city sites unclaimed nearby. Build settlers and make 2 more...
I would assume it's intentional. It has been a feature since the game was released although it isn't a wise move. I have done it when I'm short of available military but it's risky. More often I have used troops to take over the site, but beware of opposing troops hidden in the fog. Also, I...
