I have to agree that marathon is more fun simply because unit moves don't happen over the course of several centuries. You play on normal or quick and by the time you produce your army and get it to your border it's obsolete, and a war you start with axemen you're probably finishing with infantry.
This is the thing. seige unites are so powerful, generally it doesn't matter what you have with them, you're going to go send your stack to roflstomp anything in its path anyways. Spam out the seige and follow it up with whatever. The question ends up does the unit do well on defense? And...
They're really not that bad because you can beeline pretty easily to engineering and then you have a decent unit and your trebs. As far as city invading, it doesn't matter what you pair there your trebs are doing the work. What you need is units for defending your stack and for defending cities...
For his start, Mr. Musa seems to do epically terrible. He generally builds one or two cities out in the desert then vassals to whomever is powerful near him.
