Anybody playing on a Retina 5K display? (new iMac)

I'm running at 2560 x 1440. I think I left all the graphics settings on the defaults. I think it looks great, but I'm actually not that sensitive to graphics settings. (I have a colleague at work who's an expert in 3d visualization, and he's constantly pointing out rendering details, good and...

    Iron?

If you're on a Mac, it's still at Iron Working (confirmed by AspyrRyan over on the Mac forum).

    G&K: I bought what now?

As far as I can tell, the latest patch thinks it's Gods & Kings. I left Steam running overnight, and when I launched Civ this morning, got some king of Gods & Kings message that made me think it had updated (can't remember exactly now), but found myself looking at the same list of leaders...

    Civ on a MacBook Pro

Well, that's unfortunate. Did they leave fn + (arrows) = home/end/page up/down? I know for a while those combos worked even though they weren't marked on the keyboard. This may have been 2-3 years ago, though.

    Civ on a MacBook Pro

Strange. You might have to adjust a preference. In System Pref-->Keyboard, fiddle with the "Use F1..." preference. I have it clicked on. Other than that, I don't know. My Macbook Pro is the early 2006 version.

    Civ on a MacBook Pro

The numeric keypad's keys can be replicated with the "fn" key and the 789/uio/jkl keys. It's doable, but not as nice as a dedicated numeric keypad. A lot of times I find myself doing control-click to move to a hex (I think that's a right-click for people with a multi-button mouse).

Macs have only one mouse button, how do I contact other civs?

Or put two fingers on the trackpad and without picking them up, click the button--that's also a right-click.

Need help improving game performance on a 2006 MacBook Pro

Swap size does not need to be the same as RAM size. In the old days, you'd often set them about equal (on systems where you had control). Nowadays with machines with big memory, sometimes you set it less. We have some big workstations with 24 G RAM, and because we know we won't be overloading...

Need help improving game performance on a 2006 MacBook Pro

I usually have Mail and Safari running. I didn't see any performance difference in 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6 on my laptop (specs above in post #2). I have probably run nearly all the point releases, too. Admittedly I have never played a game on a bigger than standard map.

Need help improving game performance on a 2006 MacBook Pro

It might be the video RAM. I have nearly the same hardware as you--MBP, purchased May 2006, except I have a 2.16 Ghz Core Duo, and I have the x1600 with 256M. I play Mac BTS with no mods, all "Low" graphics and no anti-aliasing, native resolution, at standard size (7 nations). Under those...

H-E-L-P!!! Age Of Ice fan scenario: Fall from heaven mod NO INTERFACE

I found that on the Mac, all I needed to do was adjust the permissions on the game files. I want to say I did a "chmod ugo+rwx" on it from the terminal, but I don't remember specifically. I do not run from an admin account.

    Help

I had the same problem, so I adapted the solution used by Windows users with the same issue. They needed to run as admin, which implies a permissions problem, so I adjusted the permissions on the game files. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I probably set the permissions to...

    Patch 3.19 available

In another PBEM game (Dominions 3), I (and others) have used Automator actions to send out game files. Apple's Automator is a lightweight alternative to using Apple Script that is programmed by choosing and connecting pre-defined components. Again, Civ IV is not supported directly, but you...

    Snow Leopard?

Same here on both counts. BtS 3.19 worked fine, and my HP Deskject 940C is using the Gutenprint driver. I recovered about 8G of HD space, too, which is a lot for my 3-yr old laptop.
