    SDK Download Down?

Has anyone else been having problems with the SDK download link recently? I'm trying to download it from here, but I'm getting a timeout error from the SDK link.

    Finding polder spots

Having recently purchased (and much enjoying :) ) G&K on the steam sale, I've been playing a few games with the Netherlands recently and I noticed an odd contradiction in their civ characteristics. Since they have a grass start bias they tend to not start near any flood plains/marshes, so I...

Ask Dennis Shirk about Civ V: Gods & Kings (submissions closed!)

"Besides the addition of new buildings, techs, and wonders, are existing values such as building and tech costs, building yields, and terrain and improvement yields being re-balanced? If they are, will these changes be rolled back into vanilla with a patch?" If the answer to this is yes...

    Air "Power"

The obvious answer to recon missions is to do what I think should've been done in Civ IV: make recon missions interceptable, and make it so that doing a recon mission over someone who you don't have open borders with counts as a DoW.

    Air "Power"

I agree; bomb-able resources is a minor concern, and with the new rebel patch could be used to totally destroy an enemy empire, so I am willing to let that slide. I do hope, however, that someone gets a mod out to do recon and remove the arbitrary bombing penalty when the c++ comes out. I'll try...

    Air "Power"

But remember, bombers in Civ IV did collateral damage. I could take 40 units down in health to the point of not being able to fight with 10 bombers in Civ IV in one turn. In Civ V, I could only do that to 10 units, and they would still probably survive that first turn. As to the recon thing...

    Air "Power"

If by "a lot of sight range" you mean a tiny fraction of their operational range, rendering long range bombers useless, then yes. That's the problem with the lack of recon; it's not about comparing them to normal unit's, they're a totally different class of unit.

    Air "Power"

It might be micro hell on large maps, but recon is very important in modern warfare and its remove constitutes probably the greatest mis-characterization of modern warfare in Civ V; the GDR is more realistic than the current air model. Ever since the Pacific front during WW2, the carrier has...

    Air "Power"

What in the world did they do to airplanes in this game? There is no recon mission, meaning that planes both cannot be used for scouting, one of their most important strategic uses (cuban missile crisis), and they are reduced to glorified siege. They also cannot perform bombing of improvements...

    Cannot install Visual Studio

I have downloaded the visual studio shell, and whenever I try to install it, it says: Visual Studio setup cannot run in compatibility mode. However, going to the file's properties, it is not set to run in any compatibility mode. Is it that I'm using Vista 64 bit? Has anyone else got it working...

    Favorite Civilization!?

China. Thanks to the GG bonus they can cheese honour like nobody's business. Thanks to Cho's, they can keep the steam going throughout the medieval era. And with the paper maker, they can afford the military easily while getting a science boost with the same building.

    1 unit/tile overkill

There is a swap option. Just have a unit move onto the tile of another unit, and both units have to be able to complete the move. I don't know if they have to be adjacent, but I think they do.

If you're having a positive change-of-heart with more game hours - add to this post

Count me in. At first, I was liked it a bit but found it somewhat boring. By now though, I have more fun than I did in a lot of my IV games. P.S. Am I the only one who likes the new interface? I think it's very elegant, although it does need a few additions, like unit maintenance.

    version?

Steam should do it automatically. If it hasn't so far, try closing and reopening steam. Also, if you go to library -> Civ 5 -> properties (right click) -> Updates, there is an option to turn updating on or off. Make sure that this is on. Oh, and patches don't break saves anymore. :goodjob:
