While I voted strategist I do love that Civ V is a beautiful game. But it's best feature is the ability to explore options. What happens if I choose Tradition, Aesthetics and Commerce? As the Aztecs? What do I focus on this game? Faith? Commerce or a kick ass military? Do I want to dominate the...
I've only had time for a few hours play but I'm now thinking of my units as a mob o' doom. The mob consists of almost every unit since cities seem semi-capable of defending themselves long enough for the mob to turn up and kill everything.
The combat is different. Before attacking I have to...
A typical game. My GG journeyed from where she'd been born, took command of a unit and then went of to lead our glorious armies to victory against our hereditary enemies.
A few turns later I noticed the leader's name.
I now need a new irony meter
I found a great aid to early rushes is to dedicate my 2nd city as a unit producer. With only barracks and a steely resolve to build only military units and not shiny things I find I often have sufficient numbers to take on our most hated enemy, (insert neighbour name here).
I finish games. The end-game is what I've been building to since my plebs learned to bang the rocks together. The units are good and often well promoted, colonies are doing there own thing and lending a tech now and then and war is often a foreign adventure aiding an ally. Adding in playing with...
Philosophically, I have problems with the quote. It's supposed to come from R.A.H's author avatar / ubermensch Lazarus Long. Yes, the superman who can do no wrong and is immortal to boot can well have that attitude. For us mere mortals who must live in, depend on and support a community of...
If you're thinking of Agincourt the English were in a defensive position on a hill, the French had to squeeze through a (relativly) narrow point and the ground was muddy to the point of being a bog.
In Civ terms the English Longbow was fortified on a hill (+75%) and had training in...
In my experience smoldering piles of rubble do not win cultural victories, nor can they build starships well.
Some days you must consider the benefits of smashing your enemies. Both cultural and starship wins depend on smoothly running empires. A campaign focused on pillaging every part of...
I've always found the brutal counter-attack the best defense. :)
With that consider sending in flanking units and cats to mire the german offensive and just have more defenders than attackers in the city square makes their life miserable.
For future strategy emulate ancient rulers and...
I think it's because it's "a philosphy on how to live your life" that's been around for centuries and practiced by a sizable chunk of humanity continuosly. It's effect has been pretty much the same as a religion as far as Civ game mechanics care (keeps the pop happy).
"If one wishes for peace it is best to prepare for war."
A limited, defensive war can be conducted with only a few units in the right conditions. If waged corectly it can quickly become a horrifying one-sided slaughterfest. Stay in forests, preferably ones on hills. Your catapult (or two)...
It can depend on who your neighbours were.
If they too lived under a similar brutal dictator they may choose the new devil over the old one.
In a monarchy/communism they may of become sick of living under a structure where a privaleged elite gets all the gravy. They wish to join your war...
