I dont think it is going to be SMAC II, and I do not want it to be.
SMAC was disigned by B. Reynolds and most of people who programmed and contributed to SMAC including BR left FIRAXIS.
The problem is, the key people who created SMAC left Firaxis and are working now in "Big huge Games" (their first game will be Rise of Nations ). Sid actually had very little to do with SMAC, as BR himself admitted once. Other than name "Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri" and Copyright issues, Firaxis...

It was a pleasure to read, key people who created SMAC and Civ2 are working now on RoN.
Great team ==>great games ;)

As Lefty Scaevola said, Quantum Mechanics is based on probability theory. Rolling the dice is the simplest example of how probability theory works- every number has equal chances to appear.
Quantum mechanics basically states that there is no way of saying exatly how any system will behave...

Not that Civ 3 is a bad game, but Civ2 and SMAC were so good because Brian Reynolds made them in fact, not Sid Meiers.
Greetings:)
Reading all posts and thinking about Civ3 again, I have this question:
What is the difference between SMAC and Civ3 in principle? What does Civ3 have that SMAC doesnt?
Units?in SMAC you can create your own. Technologies? SMAC's technologies are wonderful once you understand...
