How would one modify the start to incorporate Sailing if playing an Archipelago map with fish/crabs and/or pearls available? A three city start such as this one would seem to be a great way to get set up in an Archie map (three cities on your home island(s)) before branching out.
There are only one or two things I miss from Civ 4... and one of those is the theme music from the original release of Civ 4! So I replaced the boring main menu music in Civ V with the Civ 4 theme!
This was really a very simple thing to do: converted the MP3 of the Civ 4 song to .WAV, backed up...
Do we know offhand if buildings that rely on resources are similarly limited when you're deficient? I went through a game where the only coal I used was to build factories; I lost my one coal tile, so I was running at -6 Coal but never thought to check whether or not the factories had been impacted.
Huge Terra map, 12 civs. Two civs so far (England, Siam) have sent settlers to an extreme distance across the map to found their second or third cities. The English city was founded on some Cotton, so I suspect it might be a case of the civs putting too much priority on a City Demand.

One last update: on a whim, I just set my Fog of War detail to Medium, from High, and I was able to load a Huge Map game at 1920x1200, fullscreen. I'll let folks know later if I can isolate this a little more, but for now I have a Huge Marathon game to occupy my attention. ;)
So, I've done a little more exploration of this issue as follows.
I posted the original thread on this subject, so my issue and PC is listed on the initial post (4GB RAM, Intel E8400 (dual core 3ghz), nVidia 8800GT, Vista 32bit.
I wanted to check the theory as posted that the Civ V process was...
During the game creation process (the loading screen with the civ/leader description) of a game with a Huge map, my game crashes to desktop. This does not occur on Large or smaller maps.
My first assumption is that that my RAM is probably causing this crash (4GB on Vista32) since I can't...
I've got a (saved) game that's having a CTD at exactly the same moment after each reload, which sounds quite a bit like it's related to the above problem. It's at a period when a bunch of civs are transitioning from ancient to classical (and maybe even Medieval, the Oracle could be getting...
I actually built a small fleet of Ships of the Line last night for the first time ever. It was rather situational, though:
I've finally convinced my wife to play Civ4, and I was playing a game with her (just her second game) and I had gotten into a war (not with her) with a civ on another...
I start my first game after patching. Marathon speed, I'm Ragnar. I do the standard explore-around bit; the first civs I run into are Brennus, Saladin, and... Montezuma. Whee.
After a little while (I'm still at one city and don't have any improvements) I get a Barbarian Uprising event, right...
Means a week for final testing after fixing whatever bug caused the previous one to "go bad", which sounds about right for a major patch like this one.
You could always start a game. :D I've got one currently running, else I'd go ahead and do it. If you decide to turn this into a signup thread, put me down for it.
I would definitely be interested in this game, *especially* if it's Epic. :) I also would give a big vote to No Tech Brokering rather than disabling it entirely, as well as choosing religions (minor point, doesn't affect gameplay, and can help roleplaying).
I don't care if everyone must be...
