I have a similar problem ... I no longer see my units move. QuickMoves is OFF in the option screen (I have tried turning it on - no change, and turn it off) And Ive looked through the civilization.ini file under "My Games" and everything there seems to be OK

I recently played Civ1 again - on a Win95 booted in Dos mode (else I cant get at the large disk) and everything works just like I remember it. No background music except to the Diplomacy, Palace, Marches and other special events. AFAIK the music and sound effects are the same thing - in DOS...

Well, you're already home-n-dry, so this is a bit redundant, but I had a similar experience. The SAV file is not the same size as the file you get out of the ZIP file. So I conclude the SAV file is corrupted, or gets corrupted on download (file type problems in browser?), but the ZIP file is fine.
