    OMG! Custom era music folders.

You want some sweet Ancient Age music? Try "Mother Tongue", by Dead Can Dance. Lots of tribal stuff, fast...less upbeat than Baba Yetu

    War... good for... absolutly nothing...ugh!

Not at all, I doubt most people here in the US even know that! Actually, I just found out something very interesting. Even Edwin Starr was not the first -- it was the Temptations! Though I imagine 99.9% of people never heard that recording: Source...

you know you've been playing too much Civ4 when...

...you vainly attempt to control the effects of inflation by asking for a cost-of-living raise at work  ...you move your mouse to the edges of the browser window and expect it to scroll for you (I just did this :crazyeye: ) ...you can't wait for December 31st, when this turn...

Argh! You beat me by just minutes. :) Bruce Springsteen ("The Boss") was only doing a cover of an Edwin Starr song...

Inflation - the unnecessary fudge factor

Sparrowhawk, I understand where you're coming from in terms of game mechanics, and control over every factor that comes into play. Traditional board games always give total control, and Civ IV is basically a board game, just so complex that it requires a computer to assist. But if it helps...

Inflation - the unnecessary fudge factor

I agree that there should be some control over it, but since it affects all Civs equally (AFAIK) is it really such a big deal?

    Writing before Alphabet?

Would Alphabet before Writing make any sense? :crazyeye: Realize that "Writing" could include pictograms...which can be much older than our alphabet.. In Civ3 Alphabet came before Writing, but I think "Writing" there intended to be the more sophisticated form, whereas I believe Writing in...

    Civilization IV Manual Errata

Thanks for the useful thread. One way to handle errata is to edit your own copy of the manual's PDF with these changes. You could use a free PDF editor to do this.

Possible to turn off building advice?

Maybe that's what the 'Enable Sid's tips' checkbox is for in the Options dialog? I dunno, haven't tried it yet.

    problem with upgrades for units-in-production

I had a city building a warrior, just a few turns away from completion, when I finally got copper hooked up. As a result, the city switched automatically to Spearman, since obtaining copper made Warrior now obsolete unit. Building the Spearman would take a lot more turns to complete, but at...

    Strange governor behavior

Moderator, could you please move this to General Discussions? I'm not sure if it's a bug and I didn't intend to put it in the Bug Reports forum

    Strange governor behavior

For the most part, the city governors (Civ3 term for citizen automation) work extremely well...better than they did in Civ3, and the interface is vastly more convenient. I never automate workers, but the governors seem to work very well now, so I leave them automated and only occasionally take...

Think denial is starting to wear off...

But throughout human history a lot of wars have been fought and the victors tend to come out better for it. My point is, the game can be balanced/tuned to make aggression a more viable option. They just have to tweak some of the numbers. This kind of tweaking happens in virtually all strategy...

Think denial is starting to wear off...

You are always going to have one advantage over the AI that trumps all others: your brain. Consider upping the difficulty -- after all, what are you going to do when a Noble game no longer gives you any challenge, because 1) you become as familiar with the game's mechanics as the AI, and 2) you...
