What does it mean when you "Like" a post?

I have no use for the entire "Like" system. I never click the "Like" button and I pay no attention to the "Like" bar that appears after the posts. I do not use any host, other than CFF, that uses any such system. If someone has a response, I think they should post it not use a no content "like".

Рerception of units on the map

I find the units very visible and have no trouble distinguishing them. I find the animals very obvious. Also the flags are quite large. Perhaps you are zoomed out too far to see details. Try setting your default view more zoomed in.

"News threads" defeat the purpose of a website like CFC

I agree wholeheartedly! I never use likes, pay no attention to them when they show on comments, and have disabled being notified about them.

Problem with Civ4 crashing on bigmaps.

You can upload the savefile and ask others to try it. However, I would suggest starting a thread in General Discussion with the savefile and a brief explanation, along with your request for others to test it there. More players will see it there than here in Technical.

Problem with Civ4 crashing on bigmaps.

You have the animation minimalized, which is what I meant. In the sound settings, I would suggest also checking the No Sound box for both Sound Effects and Music. Sound generation of any kind uses a lot of assets, even if the volume is set as low as it goes. If that does not solve it, you...

Problem with Civ4 crashing on bigmaps.

I play on a 64G comp., usually on huge maps with 12 civs (including me). I have never had a crash, although after a few hours of play, I have to quit and restart due to slowing down, which that solves. I have the animation set so each unit only shows one, not three, figures and the sounds...

Why is CIV4 still the best civ game?

Ctrl-W will take you to the next unit that needs orders, until they all have orders. Ctrl-\ takes you back to the previous unit. You can choose the next unit that you want by clicking or use ctrl-W to go to the next one that auto cycling would have chosen. This works with or without auto...

    Recommendations for system

I run CIV on older systems. I use two old Macs, running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on one of them, 10.14.6 on the other, and Windows 7.1 on a virtual system under Parallels on both. It runs fine on all four. I mainly use the 10.6.8. system. I mostly run the Windows virtual system only when I want to use a...

Unexpected site layout changes, January 9 2025

Thanks! I found the option and disabled it. That solved the trouble.

Unexpected site layout changes, January 9 2025

Ever since this new "update", the enable push notice shows up every time that I log in. I close it and select "never ask again" but it happens again when I next log in. This has been a downgrade, not an update.

    [BTS] Colonization to another Continent

Since Rome is in Europe and Constantinople (now Istanbul) is technically in Asia, and at the time that Emperor Constance moved the capital the entire city was south of the strait, the Roman empire did it.

[Vanilla] Installing 1.74 to GOTY CD CIV4, receiving error 1706 will not complete

I mainly use an older Mac system, which still recognizes the disc as legit. However, most mods won't run on the Mac version, so I downloaded CIV from GOG to run on my virtual Windows system to run mods. GOG prices are reasonable and they have frequent sales. You can choose either to use an...

[Vanilla] Installing 1.74 to GOTY CD CIV4, receiving error 1706 will not complete

Starting back at the last update to Windows 7, Microsoft disabled the disc protection controlling software used by CIV and many older games. With that gone, the disc protection prevents the CIV disc from being read as legitimate. Although you can load from the disc you cannot run the loaded...

    The Eternal Peace

It's quite easy to remove Global Warming from the game. The GlobalDefines.xml, which exists for every version of the game (vanilla, Warlords, and BTS), holds many game parameters. Global Warming is one of them. The file is located in each version as follows: ...\Civilization 4\Assets\XML...

CIV IV BTS for Mac M2s?

The problem is most likely not the M2 but rather the version of the Mac OS that it is running. If you install a virtual computer on your Mac, such as Parallels. then you can install an older Mac OS and or an older Windows OS in the virtual computer that will let you run CIV and any other older...
