I have beaten diety twice and Emperor about 10 times. I usually play monach and win without too much challenge. I am playing a regent island map right now and it has been a very fun and challenging game.
As Jim Rome is found of saying, "If you are not cheating, you are not trying." Unfortunately the world is based on cheating and lying. I am against cheating but do what ever you morally think is right. It is just a game.
I noticed that the frenchies always break their agreements with me and go to war. America sucks in all my games. Germany also always goes to war but ends up in the back of the pack by the modern age. My citizens still have no beer.
I enjoy Civ 3 but agree that the game gets exremely boring once you get a little ahead. The best strategy game ever is the Axis and Allies board game (the version for the computer has an AI with the brain of an vegetable).
Tea is a good historically correct luxury. Plain old salt was very significant until more modern times when it became easy to get (salt was worth its weight in gold in ancient Africa).
Fried chicken is a fine luxury. Porn is also good. Krispy Kream doghnuts are not bad either.
I think there should be more luxuries in the game. Maybe new luxuries could pop up in the modern times. Who cares about ivory these days, it is against the law in most countries.
If you took a pole today and ask people what is the greatest luxury people enjoy, I am sure it would be alcohol/beer. Get rid of the grapes for wine and put in the barley/hopps for beer. Another great luxury would be chips and dip or the "Big Mac".
