The Algerian Tirailleurs was a colonial light infantry unit raised by the French around the early 1840s in North Africa. Together with the Senegalese tirailleurs recruited in French West and Central Africa (which you can find here, by the way) the Tirailleurs regiments would serve with distinction not only in African campaigns, but also in Europe and Asia as well. The Tirailleur regiments would be disbanded as the French African colonies gained their independence.
