By the spring of 1943, all three of Italy’s armoured divisions had been destroyed in North Africa. In response, Benito Mussolini issued orders to create a new armoured division. This new division would have the best weapons and vehicles available (German-made ones, by implication). The personnel would come from combat veterans of the Fascist Party’s armed wing, the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN, commonly known as Blackshirts)
According to Osprey NV StuG III-IV, page 42, three StuG Ausf.Gs were given to the Italian Army in May 1943. Their combat records are unknown. Photos of these are even rarer and did not help to determine their location or type.
