1.17f and the speed of tech advancing!!!

Loki,

Check recent postings about 1.17f. 1.17f also reduced the cost of about 10-12 techs. This will also speed up the tech acquisition.

I don't recall which tread gave the details but there are not too many to check, look for a list of techs and old cost with new lower cost list.
Indeed, but these were late tech (modern age ones).

Okay, I hate the new AI tech trading system.

I really wonder why bother researching anything with the new patch, even on warlord the AI will keep up with you. The tremendous drop in research cost when some civs already know the tech makes the whole pursuit of a technological lead hopeless.
The only way to hamper their research rate is to have them fight each others.

One example : middle age, I go the opposite route researching engineering, invention...metallurgy. These are rather expensive techs.
I get as much as monotheism, chivalry and education from the Great Library (this is a hint the AI seems to go the other way). So as soon as I get metal, I switch to astronomy. In less than ten turn, the AI comes to me to trade metallurgy to astronomy
They swallowed a big tech gap in less than 10 turns. I am infuriated.

back to 1.16 now!

all i can say is... so what

this is not a historically based game and the AI needed help.
1.17 definitely made the game more enjoyable.

What I do is go into Civ3Edit and change the Tech Rate setting, so that I discover Gunpowder in the 1400s, Replacable Parts in the 1800s, et cetera.

Damn that public school education!

-never knew about the Romans and the steam engine-

whoever said that please elaborate.......

Firaxis fixed an exploit because I always traded my latest research purchase to all other players to prevent whoring. It's still not well fixed because the Persians sold me Atomic Theory for one Dollar and I resold it for a total of 2000. It was my last turn of research for Atomic Theory but how does the cheating A.I. know that?;)

Really all you haveta do is throw your scientific research up to 100% and build cities to speed it up (along with a few scientists in each city). It will increase if you have the great wonders of the world in a city that increses research, I mean i am the Americans and i have every great wonder of the world (and every small wonder) in my capatol Washington DC, and i have 7 scientists and it increases my research 234.333342% (don't know if the calculator it correct) but thats bsically it when you begin the game set research up to 100% or 90% and set happiness at 10%. By the way you might wana get the Democracy Gov't to help.

rkdraco--I thought the consensus was science city strategy no longer works. I have never seen it to work. It would be interesting to see one of these games: {just like HOF}, year 4000bc, about year 0, and 1 turn before end of game (so can replay game history). I have been able to get some wonders but never all.

If all 100% treasury for research & happiness, that means you are foregoing
1- cash to upgrade military units
2- cash to bribe other civs
3- cash to hurry production.

Are you selling your techs to get cash? If so, how soon?

Loki-- what do you think about tech trading in 1.21? Do you use default, or turn down tech trading?
