Just curious, for anyone who has experimented around with modding yet (maybe it's too early): In the World Builder Manual pdf it says that the limit for the # of civs in a game is 18... is this still true, or was it only true during beta testing?

I don't have the final release build but I'd put the mortgage on it still being 18
civ players. AFAIK, it's always been 18 and it's inconceivable that they changed that at the last minute.

You mean it's hardcoded? As in there aren't any ways to make additional civs to the already existing without taking civs out to keep the number constant at 18?
That wouldn't be a very nice thing to do... :-/

You can add new civs: you just can't have more than 18 civs in any game.

A while back, I knocked off a Canadian civ (with Wayne Gretzky as leader) to see how difficult it would be. It was really easy; only took an hour or two.

If it's true it's very protectionistic(?) of Firaxis/Take2.... just to get people to buy their expansions. I think they would've made a fortune on them anyway.

hmmh, I'll just have to wait and see...

I remember early talk about Civ4 being specifically about removing hardcoded limits. It wouldn't make sense to limit it to 18.
