In a thread at the Strategy & Tips forum it came to my attention there are quite alot of diffrences between 2.42 and MPG..

I've been going through some .txt files but didn't really find anything substantial... I'm using the Multiplayer Gold Edition: v1.3 US patch

Apart from the multiplayer part offcourse, what are the diffrences exactly?

Thats pretty much the only difference.A few more unit slots in MGE for custom units and the ability to read events.txt for scenarios.

It is a bug, feature, call it what you like.Basically, the AIs in MGE reset their attitudes every turn which gives the illusion of a more hostile civ. They can go from worshipful to enraged in 1 turn for no apparent reason.
Its not really more hostile or aggressive. It acts as an ai civ should when it is enraged.

Microprose refused to acknowledge there was any difference at all.I beleive it was caused by the ability to manually set attitudes in multiplay.

Many players actually prefer the MGE AI as an opponent. But where it really hurts is in scenarios.Like the WW! scenario with FW where the US will sneak attack Britain on turn 1.Makes many scenarios unplayable as the creator(s) intended anyways.

Smash, don't a few of the wonders work differently too? The descriptions are sometimes different, anyway.

For instance, The Great Wall. The discription in Plain Civ2 describes getting city walls in all your cities, but the gold version doesn't. And Hanging Gardens apparently provides three happy citizens in the building city in one version, but not in the other.

Is it just the descriptions, or do they really work differently?

Just the descriptions. All wonders are identical in all versions of Civ2.

And some of those descriptions are wrong.Like JSB and Hoovers only working on 1 continent.Cope's and Sir Isaac's are reversed
